Whispering Archive

A heavily warded tower in the Bibliopolis that houses a restricted collection of magically active and potentially dangerous books. Warding stones in the base of tower create effects similar to the Forbiddance and Private Sanctum spells:
  • creatures can't teleport into the area or use portals, such as those created by the gate spell, to enter the area
  • the area is proofed against planar travel, and therefore prevents creatures from accessing the area by way of the Astral Plane, Ethereal Plane, Feywild, Shadowfell, or the plane shift spell.
  • when a celestial, elemental, fey, fiend, or undead creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, the creature takes 5d10 radiant damage
  • Sensors created by divination spells can't appear inside the area or pass through the barrier at its perimeter
  • Creatures in the area can't be targeted by divination spells
Many of the highly magical books in the tower produce errant sparks of eldritch energy, rustle their pages, or emit low voices and other sounds. The effect is that of a low ambient susurration audible to anyone present in the archive when other sounds are hushed.   The tower and its collection is tended by Keeper Viveldra Ninox.
