How does this household contribute to the kingdom?
I run a Tavern, Bron’s Tavern, with a house Ale, Reviv-Ale, and two house meads, Sixth Night and Third Night
Reflect on the last ten years.
I did not expect the last ten years to affect me the way they did, though most happened in the last five. I had imagined this year’s census would be bland, talking only of how the tavern has grown and perhaps about how I intend to or was currently attempting to woo a lady. I did not expect to not only have fallen madly in love with a nomadic maiden, much less have to mourn her loss while raising a son.
Starting with the tavern, it was a slow start. I must thank Kayta and Blazh once again, as without their help I would not have lasted two turns of Holt. It finally took off once I made a deal with Hikawer to have a large pit roasted pig every month for the village. Once I worried less about having enough to pay back my loan, I started attempting to make my own brew. Ale was easy enough, and a house ale became readily available. Eventually I created a decent mead recipe. I don’t plan to expand this flavor and will keep it special to Jeff until my son takes over, when he is then free to expand how he feels.
Gwynn wandered into my tavern the first year of mead making. She wanted a break from traveling for a few nights and requested a place in my hearth room. She was far too beautiful, witty, and bright, so I offered her a deal to stay longer. Should she taste every brew I attempted, I would allow her to stay in the smallest room. I had made ten different flavors and made her try a different flavor every night. It was not a busy season, so I was allowed to talk to her through the night and she was able to meet most the village. By the fourth night, I knew I had to convince her to stay longer. By the end of the sixth night, she asked if I had any other flavors to keep her in village. I regretfully told her I only had ten meads; she responded with how many things I could cook. Before we knew it, It was a year later and the tavern was hosting our wedding. I never imagined I could ever be so lucky to spend a fortnight with this woman, much less the rest of my life.
I will admit that I don’t know how much her marrying me was because she loved me and how much was because she had grown pregnant by the summer month. She regularly said that she wouldn’t settle her life for just a baby but we only had such a short time together and my deepest worry was that she was just appeasing me. Regretfully, we only had four turns of Skiti together as newlyweds before she was gone from us. Her pregnancy was hard in the last months. Unable to even walk most days, she rested while the world continued on. I must write now that I have blocked most of this trauma from my mind, as I did not know what to do and am still filled with grief. I would like to extend her memory more, but our love was quick and bright and I unfortunately only know my version of her, the traveler that arrived at a crossroads inn and never left until she did for good.
Our son,
Kelvos, was born strong though. It had been our fear that he would not, but his cries rattled the banisters as he was born and he nearly broke my finger as he grasped at it in his new world. He was able to spend three nights with his mother before it became just the two of us. He continued to grow stronger and now he is almost three. He has kept me going, brought life to the tavern, and I feel has brought the village closer together. I picture a bright future for him.
Goals and plans for the next ten years.
Ultimately the next ten years will be filled with teaching my son to be a daring and curious child and then teach him to be a good man.
I would like to add a stable to the tavern within five years. I’ve finalized my second mead, as well, and plan on making it a regular addition to the tavern.
Any suggestions to make your town/region/kingdom better.
A proper cleric is needed in the village of Jeff. Druids can only do so much.
