Hivendelge

The cold, unforgiving north is a land full of warm hearths and warmer hearts. It's a land as cold as death and full of a lively people.
Hivendelge is known as a neutral nation, rarely joining in conflicts unless absolutely necessary -- and they always win. Some point to their diplomatic negotiations -- others to their focused military -- to explain their history of decisive victories. In truth, their leadership is shrewd and patient. With this and a land that forges its people into hardened warriors, it's no surprise that they are a force to be feared. With their king, Jeevak Lodbrok, being a former adventurer, public opinion of adventurers and heroes is that of reverence, with most more than willing to open their homes to heroes.
In Hivendelge, there is a deep respect for the dead and their views of dying reflect this. To die happy or fighting (or both) is viewed as the highest of honors as is living a long life of positive influence. On the other side, a bad death is one that could have been prevented and Hiven have been known to go into a period of repentance in hope of atoning for their failures. These repentant living may seek to right their wrongs, lessen the ripples caused by the loss, or dedicate themselves to being a better impact on the world. Due to the latent necromantic magic of the land, cremations are almost mandatory and necromancers are viewed with disgust.
The magic in the land means that most Hiven are innately capable of at least small feats of magic -- minor cantrips usually -- and Hivendelge is home to the most robust magical academies of Kralkan: Ragthroknar’s Sorcerer’s Academy. As a result, magic items are abundant and cheap in Hivendelge, with most shops carrying some form of magical item.
