salamander
Basic Information
Anatomy
Salamanders are little lizard, with spikes on the back that contain flammable substance, and are very brittle and pointy. their skin is resistant to fire.
Biological Traits
female are a bit smaller than males, and a bit larger too. Alkalian breed have less and smaller needles on the back.
Genetics and Reproduction
those little lizard lay eggs in the ashes and racks around volcanoes. the hotter it is, the fastest they hatch, that would be between three weeks and two months. a female salamander often lay a dozen to a twenty of egg at each reproduction, depending of the season.
Growth Rate & Stages
baby lizard grow from egg to adult in around a year, at that stage they lack any spikes. after passing adult, their spikes start growing in two days to one week and enter their first combustion.
Ecology and Habitats
they live in the ashes of active volcanoes of Akeidre islands, and it exist a little pouch of specimen around the monastery of Rhodes, in Alkalia.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Insects, larvae, Arthropods. Sometime a stranded bird.
Biological Cycle
as all lizard, they are ectotherms, and need heat to live, however, as they live around volcanoes, they do not hibernate, except for the Alkalian ones.
Additional Information
Social Structure
they often lives in little nest of ten individuals, playing and hunting together. youngling tend to leave and create their own nest a bit further, but not really far from their parents.
Domestication
Domesticating them are very hard due to their property, yet Akeidre already tried, as they eat insects that invade cultures, their burning property is not enough to start fire in fields; however, children often regret playing with it when their hand is burned. The problem is, salamander is very sociable and is not very afraid of Akerese population.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
If done with extreme care, oil of the needles can be collected, and used, the process was found to be too hard and long to be productive.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
around active volcanoes, both lava and explosive, love dwelling in ashes.
Average Intelligence
not much intelligence, but they are aware of their combustible property and are able to trigger their combustion themselves.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Salamander's eyes are really efficient to perceive movement and colours, ad can feel even more movement with their paws. They have a strong smell, both from the nose and tongue. They also have ears but do not rely much on sound, yet have a good hearing.
Lifespan
around ten year
Conservation Status
Being specific to volcanic environment, the specie is always in danger from culture, Alkalian breed especially, is protected as it exist only two hundred specimen.
Average Height
5cm
Average Weight
around 0,15 kg (150 g)
Average Length
30cm
