Lurnum (Loor-nuh-m)

Lurnum is a rare and valuable stone found primarily within active volcanoes. It is renowned for its unique property of reducing magical effects and damage, making it an invaluable material for the creation of anti-magic weapons and artifacts.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Lurnum is a dark, obsidian-like stone with a smooth, almost glassy texture. It is incredibly durable, but dense and heavy, making it unsuitable for large weapons or armor by itself. However, it is highly resistant to heat and physical damage, and is great to be used in small quantities or for accenting on weapons and armor. When tempered, Lurnum can be mixed with Mabela and silk to create Cleeth, a cooling cloth that utilizes Lurnum's anti-heat properties for enhanced comfort.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Lurnum possesses an anti-magic quality that disrupts and nullifies the flow of magical energies within its vicinity. This effect is strongest at the core of the stone, gradually weakening as one moves away. The size directly influences the strength of its anti-magic field, meaning solid masses of lurnum are more effective than thin accenting strands, however the more lurnum in an object, the heavier it is. Additionally, lurnum is particularly effective against TSBs who use external forms of magic, as it severs their connection to it. However, it is less effective against TSBs who possess internal reserves of magical power.   Unforunately, lurnum's anti-magic effect is not absolute. While it can significantly weaken magical abilities, it cannot completely nullify them, especially against powerful TSBs. Lurnum's anti-magic effect only extends to a limited area around the stone itself, thus cannot completely protect someone either.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Lurnum is commonly used to create weapon tips, blade and shield cores, and arrowheads, imbuing them with the ability to pierce through magical defenses and disrupt TSB abilities. Lurnum can also be incorporated into armor plating to provide protection against magical attacks. However, its weight makes it impractical for large-scale armor production. Lastly, lurnum is rarely used to create various anti-magic artifacts, such as amulets and rings, offering personal protection against the odd magical threat. There has also been rumor of people lining safes with Lurnum to prevent TSBs tampering with contents inside.
