Blackrock Granite

Blackrock Granite is extracted from the namegiving Blackrock Mountainrange in the similarly named Blackrock Frontier, the first and most famous quarry of Blackrock Granite by the Elemental Extents Mining Group.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Blackrock Granite is a dark grainy rock with a surface rough enough to cause serious abraisons and forms sharp edges when the granite brakes, when naturaly occoruing.

The refined Blackrock Granite Blocks are dull dark gray and retain thier grainy apperance, however the surface is usualy smoothed to a certain degree to limit it's abrasive qualities.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Blackrock Granite is exceptionaly resilient and wear through elements is neglectable. However the same can't be said for tools that are used to mine it. It is inflamable and so dense that it even has better blast restaince than regular rock.

Geology & Geography

Blackrock Granite is the very common in the Ubos and neighboring counties, outside this region it only occours in relatively small quantities.
It makes up most of the rock of the massive Blackrock Mountainrange and is actually easily accessible if one has the patients and sturdy tools to mine it.

History & Usage

Everyday use

Blackrock Granite is ubiquitous within the Nefadric Empire, as it is the preferd building material for it's resiliance and longevity.   The most famous example of Blackrock Granite usuage is Aodios. All of it's massive walls and towers and even the flying rings are constructed from it!

Cultural Significance and Usage

Blackrock Granite has become a signature of the region Ubos, as it is the greates known source of Blackrock Granite. Nefadric copper coinage that stems from the Ubos mint have the Blackrock Mountain Range on one side.

Industrial Use

Blackrock Granite is masoned into blocks or bricks before it is used as a building material. It is an exhausting process as smoothing out the rock requires a lot of strength and special tools due high hardness of the granite. In Aodios and other cities with major industrial capabilites, this job has long been given to watermills or more sophisticated machines.

Refinement

Adding finer details or polishing the granite is a rather complicated process as usualy the granite is impervious to such fine and perciese actions required. Artists have found a some ways arround it - tools of wonderous materials, oils to gift thier implements incredibles sharpness, polishing acids or outright magic are the norm.

Manufacturing & Products

The vast majority of Blackrock Granite is made into blocks or bricks for construction pourpouses, however, in rare cases Blackrock Granite is used for acessories, trinkets, jewlery or art.

Hazards

While the Blackrock Granite is only really dangerous when it falls on somebodies head, even blocks and bricks of building quality have a rough enough surface to cause abrasions and wear on clothes. It is a common sight on the City Guard uniforms to be worn out in this way.
