Session 41: Answers And More Questions

Kayl and Frederick both seek knowledge about themselves, while Gurgleglark requests some help and offers a plan.

General Summary

  • The party has breakfast down in the common room and nurses their hangovers along side the working women from the brothel. One suggests that Kayl go up and visit with Madame Zyra as she too is a tiefling. And he immediately heads that direction after convincing the kitchen staff to let him take her her breakfast.
  • When he arrives, Zyra invites him in and offers him some insight on the tiefling nature, especially those who are offspring of Cubi. She tells him that it is common for those bastards to grow up orphans due to the shame of their mortal parents and the indifference of their Cubi parent. She consoles him in their joint hardships and reassures him that his struggle is not a unique one. When she offers to meditate with him to attempt to get him to control his demonic nature, she is startled when his power surges and insists he must be of mighty powerful Incubi blood. When Kayl offers that he stumbled upon the name Thalvyce Incubarus in a demonic lineage in the Feywild, she cautions him that Thalvyce is the demon prince of Lust, one of the Lords of Hell and that Kayl's lineage may make him a target for Thalvyce's enemies, or those seeking to gain favor by ridding the world of one of his bastards.

  • The meeting with Gurgleglark follows soon after breakfast in which the Myconid Mob Boss provides some information and offers a bit of a trade. See, the agent he sent to gather information for the party is the only one who can get them to the Dragonsteel Mines, but they were caught in the process and thrown in the Nightshade family vaults as a prison awaiting judgement. Gurgleglark states that his Rogue has something of his that makes it easy for him to sneak around, so the Vault must be under very strong and specific protection to have prevented his escape. He states that he had been planning a heist of the Vault for other reasons, but never had the skills or opportunity, but if the party is willing to break in and free his agent, he can assist them. He also states that it must happen within 3 days, as Princess Nightshade is hosting a ball for the Shacklegorscht nobility before departing on a cruise around the Black Loch to visit other city states of the Underdark.
  • There is some slight hesitation when the party learns that Gurgleglark's Rogue is an @Illithid
  • After the party agrees and begins forming plans to execute the heist, Frederick and Bengt Sunwalker decide to pay a visit to the Silver College to get some information. After a small altercation with the staff in which Gorthok Helmsplitter is deceptively mistaken for a powerful mage accredited to Forgehammer, they gain access to the College's libraries and Frederick sets to work trying to get to the bottom of his persistant nightmare and the profane spell driving his fatigue.
  • While doing so he is visited by the voice again offering to free him of the spell and his nightmares, and this time it persists long enough to argue over it. Frederick continues to refuse and manages to get to a place he feels comfortable in trying to scribe the spell himself, but while he leaves the College he is beset by his Bag of Holding attempting to pull him physically towards the Spell Gem manufacturing wing. He resists and rejoings Bengt, who went looking for information on Forgehammer and the Dragonsteel Mines (and found that the mines were closed and sealed after the fall of Forgehammer, but not before discovering that the Silver College was the recipient of 2 tons of the material.)
  • The two join the rest of the party and Psilos to continue shopping and preparing for the heist.
