Stormsong: Session 6
General Summary
- Renn used a spell scroll to cast fog cloud, and the party swung open the door and stood out of the way of the Hoarders, running out after them and closing the door.
- One noticed the deception and threw itself against the door, breaking through. Renn was ready with his bow and defeated it. Its feathers sluffed off as it collapsed to the floor dead, and no others pursued them out, instead turning to fight each other.
- In the last room of this level, there were shadows circling around a floating crystal orb. Michael scorched the first one he saw, but Augustus tried reasoning with them in dwarven that he wasn't going to hurt them.
- It didn't work for long. They let him get close, but swarmed him when he explained he wanted to borrow the token in the crystal.
- In a very round about way to save him, Michael opted to set the room on fire. It got rid of all the shadows by shattering the crystal, but also took Auggie down to zero.
- A shadow rose out of him, looked around at the embers of its fellow ghouls and rose up through the ceiling. Augustus was promptly revived, but was alarmed to find he no longer casted a shadow.
- Leaving that room, there was no longer any sound coming from the hoarder's chamber. The party peeked in to see another dead and the last two had gathered the hoards into two piles on the side of each room
- Michael wanted to burn the knowledge to appease the god upstairs, but the others intercepted the scorching rays with their own bodies to prevent it. So he instead opted to steal one of the books.
- With all the tokens gathered, the party reluctantly put all the tokens in their places on the alter, almost expecting to summon some forgotten horror and unleash it upon the world. Thankfully, it just unlocked the way back up to the surface.
- Michael placed the book from below in front of Kalmir's statue, and asked if the knowledge should be destroyed. The words came to his mind: "If you wish." He decided to just leave it.
- The researchers were fascinated to hear what the party found below, but couldn't explore it themselves because it was nightfall and time to return to Qasavin village. They suggested going somewhere other than Bhunyar to get Renn's golden curse sorted out, but everyone felt pressed for time and decided to brave the city for a shorter trip.
- Before they parted ways, the researchers suggested that if the party wanted to go on more (and likely safer) expeditions in the future and just bypass the school, they should stay in touch. The two do a lot of their own independent research and would appreciate the company.
- At the school's revivery, Renn's curse was cured and people tried to assure Augustus that he hadn't lost his soul, only his shadow, but he didn't believe them.
- When they found professor Hilmi to report to him he also tried to assure Auggie, citing his ability to still cast magic as proof he didn't lose his soul.
- A blue-skinned stranger named Vollor also happened to be in the room at the time, and joined the party's discussion of what they'd been through, the nature of soullessness, and strange encounters with the divine or the fiendish.
- The party pointed out that there was a lot more at that temple than the school suggested. Professor Hilmi said he couldn't pay them extra for their efforts, but does commend their efforts and skills. If they write a report of their experience, their current detention "debt" would be repaid. At Michael's request, this report would also be published. But he warned everyone to stay out of further trouble.
