Northton

A small town of about 2,400 people, Northton was, and by most accounts still is, a thriving pirate haven. But it is also the capital of the recently formed Barony of Crisdua.

Defences

The town has a wooden palisade surrounding it, except for the port area on the river which is not protected.  The river itself has several sand bars at it's entrance, that shift quite a bitwith the seasonal changes in the river flow, and due to storms roiling in from the sea.  This makes it very difficult to approach by sea, except by those with lots of local knowledge. Even lifelong residents often engage the services of a Pilot to help guide their ships in safely after having been away for a time.

Industry & Trade

Northton is mostly a ship-building town, but it also makes money in selling of illegally obtained cargo, from the pirates that form the ruling class of this town.

Guilds and Factions

The Sons of the Sunset Sea is the most powerful guild in town and they control, trough the Baroness, most of the trade and business that occurs on Northton.

Architecture

All of the structures in Northton are wooden. While Crisdua has some stone resources on it's eastern side, the closeness and ease of obtaining lumber from the forest, make wood the go to material. Most houses are self-built and the quality varies widely.  A significant number of "houses" are little more than permanent tents made of wood beams with old canvas roofs and walls.  The wealthier people do have fully enclosed wooden homes, several of them of two stories, but most are single story.

Geography

Northton lies to the south of the Atbuton River. The land is flat with just a slight slope up from the river bank. The forest lies not far away, although over the last twenty years it has been cut back several miles from where it once stood. The soil here is rich and moist allowing for decent farming, although due to the types of people living in Northton, very little farming is done, but small household gardens are numerous. The river deepens here making it suitable for ships to anchor offshore, or pull in to one of the docks.  Further upstream the river is shallower, so larger vessels can not go far past the town.

Natural Resources

Northton has an abundance of wood used for fuel, home building, and most importantly, for ship building. The forest also holds an plenty of game.  The river and the nearby Sunset Sea are full of fish. Some sheep and pigs are raised by the locals for their own consumption, or occasional sale.
