Continuity Protocol

Try as we might, the human body can only last so long and rejuvenation treatments drag this inevitable failure out. The human mind is equally frail, maladaptive for the strains of life as a digital or wholly mechanical being. The Continuity Protocol represents the pinnacle of life extension technology, and was the culmination of several lifetimes work by Doctor Bannick. The process requires the growth of a cloned body to maturity to host the original consciousness. Through a destructive copy/write procedure, someone with enough means could upgrade to a fresh every few decades and live forever.

Utility

This was the means by which some hoped to live forever. By cloning a perfect body and copying ones consciousness to the nubile frame. The copying process is inherently destructive for the original, a necessary cost for a high fidelity transfer. As for the consciousness of the new body, it is either erased or repressed so deep as to not make a difference.

Access & Availability

Even the chance of using the Protocol was only available to the most elite in the sector, i.e. Planetary Barons, Emperors, Warlords etc...

Complexity

Every application of the Continuity Protocol requires the creation of a unique Continuity Engine for tuned to the specific consciousness to be transferred. The cloned body must also be subtly modified in utero to make it maximally receptive. The process must be monitored end to end to even have a hope of success.

Discovery

The process was not discovered but slowly perfected through literal thousands of destructive failed attempts. Doctor Bannick pursued this research in secret with the backing of a string of wealthy patrons.
