The death of Warren the Steward.

Warren III had become a beloved ruler in his time. He became the subject of countless songs and stories, fictional and not. When he died, his succession was subject to question. He had 12 kids. Four were bastards, two were with his wife Greta Logratte, three were to Vetti Helgaard, and three were to Sif Vanar.   Warren III had intentionally helped in the development of large and powerful families; in the end, his wives represented the largest three. While Warren III had managed to maintain order during his rule, the population was going to begin outpacing what any baron's haseti could manage to control. While his wives' extended families would continue to be cared for by the growing haseti throughout the years, they each wanted their own representative to secure continued prosperity beyond their own lives.   The Steward made clear that he wanted Helgaard's youngest daughter (Ersa Helgaard) to succeed him, given her good temperament and aptitudes. However, she died nights after her father via alcohol poisoning; ironically, she was celebrating her rise to power. The validity of accidental death was subject to question and her replacement was uncertain, so this would lead to a vote held by the Steward's haseti, now roughly 400 strong.
