The Gatekeepers

In the early days of Lanath a small group of mortals learned to manipulate the flow of mythal around Lanath and became the first practitioners of magic. These mortals also learned of the looming threat of the Primordials and the importance of protecting Lanath.

Structure

Three Archdruids form the ruling council of the Gatekeepers. Archdruids wear white robes, and due to their mastery of druidic magic they are functionally immortal.
The majority of the druids wear grey robes and operate autonomously in line with the general instructions of the council.
New initiate druid apprentices wear green robes are are mentored by an initiated druid until they are deemed ready to undergo full initiation (known as taking the grey)

History

When the Primordials first attacked, the druids led the mortal races in battle, wielding powerful druidic magic and managed to repel their attack, although at great cost to themselves. The Primordials were not defeated though, and a thousand years later, they returned with an army of demons and dragons and began the The Primordial War.
However, during the intervening millennium the druids had secretly guided the mortal kingdoms, discreetly directing their actions and preparing them for the inevitable return of the Primordials.
In the aftermath of the great war the druids continued to clandestinely guide the survivors through the Black Times, orchestrating the birth of the empire.
