Lankhmar relies on its great fields of grain as its primary economic resource. Despite the fact that so many people live within the city walls, the region produces enough surplus grain that the city is able to store it in monumental grain towers that line the western side of the city, near the city walls, the docks, and the River Hlal. The huge cargo ships of the grain merchants sail the grain across the Inner Sea to other parts of Nehwon, particularly the Eight Cities and ports to the east. Lankhmar imports a variety of goods, most prominently lumber from the north, exotic goods such as spices and slaves from the mysterious eastern kingdoms, and even unusual animals, such as birds and leopards from the jungles of Klesh.
