Adney's Field

Named after its first settler, Edina Adney, Adney's Field stayed a small hunting village throughout its relatively short existence. Its close proximity to both a natural water source and the ancient Mhórsa Forest meant provided the village with a varied population of large game such as elk, boars, and bears. Supported by the trade of animal furs and hides to Illivan, life in Adney's Field was simple until a colony of goblins drove the local wildlife away.

History

Origin

The area that would become known as Adney's Field was originally visited by Illivani hunters from Green Water looking to expand their hunting grounds. While the area had a sizable Elk population perfect for harvesting for meat and hides, it was too far from the nearest settlement, Green Water, to sustain a continued presence. The first permanent structure of Adney's field was Edina Adney's farmhouse in 791 ER when the mother wished to be closer to where her son was hunting. Over the next twenty years additional homes and structures were built near Edina Adney's field, thus birthing the colloquialism 'Moving to Adney's Field".

Ruins of the Lantern

See full article: Ruins of the Lantern   In late 810 ER, a group of hunters exploring the Mhórsa Forest discovered a heavily eroded ancient structure that had been nearly retaken by nature. Amateur expeditions into the ruins where attempted, but were ultimately proven too dangerous due to a large colony of goblins that had burrowed inside the structure.   Rumors of the forest ruins spread over the next several months resulting in the drawn attention of Ambrose François. As a capable spell-sword and professional ruin delver Ambrose would arrive at the temple on Ureza 6th, 811 ER where he would discover Ogorian's Lantern.   For more please see: Chapter #1: Outside the Frontier Village

Deterioration

After Ambrose François killed the bugbear that controlled the goblin colony living in the ruins, the goblins began to spread out into the surrounding forest driving away the local game populations. As the human settlement and goblin colony started to compete over resources and the goblins were unable to procure their own food, Goblin parties would begin to raid Adney's Field. After the first death of an Adney's Fielder by Goblin raid the hamlet began to see its citizens dissipate to other towns.   After the destruction of the capital Illivan in 815 ER, all government support for Adney's Field dissolved and the settlement was officially abandoned.
