Session 5: The Catoblepas Assault
General Summary
The Catoblepas swings its long neck out of the container and immediately tries to gore through Soleil. It takes all eight members of the rebel group to prevent the dangerous beast from exiting its cage as it thrashes against the fighters. Soleil, Kairon , and Zorawar blast the beast with magic while the rest of the fighters chip away at the creatures hide to keep it from unleashing a plume of poisonous gas. With enough careful applications of magic spells and weapons, the rebels put the catoblepas to death.
With the whole group reeling from their near-death experience, Vidrohi brings attention to the papers he previously found in the zoo workers office that detailed an upcoming delivery of more magical creatures to this building. The revelation coupled with vile treatment of the occupants here, Vidrohi offers his plan to the group: burn the building to the ground.
The rebels are all in agreement in the decision and make haste in releasing the remaining creatures. Lashkar's group splits to go upstairs and start releasing the occupants already found while the party continues to explore the basement.
Aside from random supplies and animal feed, the group discovers two more species tucked away within the basement. Kai and Vidrohi discover a pair of bound Stone Dogs in hibernation. Kai determined that since they were unsure of the stone dogs allegiance or origin, they should be left alone and that they would likely survive the upcoming fire. Soleil and Lucky uncover a trembling of Leshy. The pair start packing the tiny plant creatures in a nearby small crate to escape with.
As the party begins to ascend up the slope back to the ground floor, Vidrohi and Kai begin to light small green and orange fires respectively. Lashkar's group has opened the large doors wide and all of the creatures have escaped the building. The party is ready to leave but Vidrohi splits off to set a few more blazes to ensure the fire catches hold.
Alone, Vidrohi lights a tree from within the Chupacabra enclosure. Inside the green flames he recognizes a pair of emerald eyes smiling back at him. Vidrohi smiles back and whispers "Beautiful." The eyes disappear and each flame Vidrohi set erupts and engulf the building.
Vidrohi safely escapes the burning building and reunites with his party. Lashkar's group gives their farewells and splits off to return to their own hideout. Soleil, Kai, Lucky, and Vidrohi all travel back home in the dark eclipsed streets lit only by the green inferno to their backs.
Elsewhere, Riordan stands at the balcony window of his palace bedroom sipping on a glass of wine and watching the emerald blaze shine verdant glow over the whole city beneath the lunar eclipse. He lets out a quite tsk tsk and swirls his glass around, "Well. I suppose I will have to do something about that."
