Goldenleaf

Goldenleafs are a highly toxic tree which grow in small groves, but seem to pop up across many different climes, to more temperate areas to rather cold areas, though they can't grow in particularly tropical or arctic areas. They're most notable for the dangerous toxins they seem to seep into everything, though, which can be incredibly deadly, and can get into someone's system quite easily.

Goldenleaf Toxin

Perhaps most notable about this plant is its potent toxin, easily capable of killing people and often animals. When any part of the tree is touched, the skin that touched begins to numb rather rapidly. After a few minutes, the affected area will begin to turn an angry golden red, and pustules will begin to form as the toxin begins to damage the skin cells more heavily. Without proper treatment, this rash will spread and begin to necrotize areas that have been affected too long without getting rid of the toxin. When ingested, it will begin to numb the mouth and throat before eating away at the affected tissue, often rapidly leading to death as the throat is eroded. When breathed in, it slowly begins to affect creatures, weakening their immune system and damaging their lungs. After too long, the affected will become sluggish and tired, before eventually suffocating from the damage done to their lungs. When creatures die near the trees, the roots will seek out the body and use its nutrients, but by doing this will instill in these corpses an undeadness, which the trees can activate to have the corpses seek out new blood when they sense creatures in the area.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Goldenleafs have two primary uses, which seem to oppose each other. One is, quite naturally, being used as a poison. As its bark, fruit, and sap are all quite sweet, it can easily be added to desserts and drinks. When ingested, it also tends to numb the tongue and throat, and for those which develop an immunity by innoculation, this can be useful. The second, less common, use, is that of healing work, as its chemical compounds can mix with others to nullify its more deadly properties, becoming a medicine that's both surprisingly effective, and less than terrible to eat.
