Kela's Lily

This large, beautiful water lily sits in a narrow range off the shore of Edan Nehziimdehl, flowering once every ten years. During this flowering period, the pollen is spread on the ocean breeze, and temporarily allows those who breathe it in to be able to see through the magical fog surrounding the island before their brain becomes acclimated to the pollen and they can see no longer. Many creatures call the large leaves home and use the shade as protection from others, but this also leads to predators which similarly use the leaves as hiding spaces, and occasionally they find adventurers make the greatest meals.

Basic Information

Anatomy

These plants can have leaves ranging anywhere from 5 to 30 feet in radius, with some specimens breaching 40. The flowers are similarly large, dwarfing creatures at a whopping 15 feet tall, with dozens of wide pastel blue to white petals. The pollen within is a vibrant yellow, and the leaves themselves a soft to vibrant green.

Genetics and Reproduction

Once every 10 years these lilies bloom, their pollen spreading in the vicinity to others and being necessary to make new lilies. However, they can survive for multiple generations, so while there is only a small amount of space they can survive, this area remains healthy and dense.

Growth Rate & Stages

These lilies generally take 4 to 5 years to reach maturity and have full size leaves, but can often begin to reach the surface after only 3 years. Some specimens have been seen reaching as old as 50.

Ecology and Habitats

This lily exists only in the shallow waters surrounding Edan Nehziimdehl, on the east side. They create cover for many animals, both predators and prey, and enrich the soil beneath them for plants that dont require much sunlight and get their nutrients other ways.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The pollen can be harvested to temporarily allow for sight through the thick magical fog that surrounds Edan Nehziimdehl, and is sometimes bottled and sold to adventurers. Its pollen loses this effect after about 10 minutes, and usually takes a day before the body will react the same way again. It is also made into a perfume for some of the more higher class folks, which smells comforting and tends to remind whoever smells it of a better time.
