The Southlands

Isolated from the rest of Lasair by geography both mundane and cataclysmic, the Southlands contain some of the most diverse populations on the continent and rivals the City-States Region in trade acumen (if not in industrial capacity). The different areas of the Southlands serve many roles on Lasair: refuge, research outpost, trade center, and gateway to the world's southern hemisphere.  

The Regions of the South

"The Southlands" is a collective term, referring to the entire southern swath of Lasair. Ranging from the Tempest Reefs on the western sea to the city of Conclave resting on the shores of the eastern sea, this stretch of lands includes perpetually stormy islands, a parched and blowing desert crossed by caravans, a shining bay with a bustling port town, and a forest of towering pines hosting all manner of woodland sentients - including the southernmost enclave of Elves in Lasair.  

Tempest Reefs

[Full Article] A jagged chain of islands off the west coast of the continent, the Tempest Reefs are constantly shrouded in heavy fog and battered by regular storms. The stormy nature of the reefs is a result of Dragonscourge era magical combatants summoning water and air elementals who ended up feeling very possessive of their new homes. A few pre-scourge ruins dot the islands, and the Mages have managed to raise a single tower on the largest island peak to study the storms.  

Southern Wastes

[Full Article] A dusty land of blowing sands and scrubby grasses that nonetheless serves as the only safe route between the Southlands and the north, the Southern Wastes are a rarity on Lasair: a naturally-formed desert. The Wastes are a simple result of a rain shadow from the Mountains. Trade caravans frequently cross the desert, though, as it is otherwise extremely difficult to reach Mina'Satie Bay from the north due to the storms and reefs.  

Mina'Satie Bay Area

[Full Article] "Shining Harbor" in the common language of the southern continent, the arcing Mina'satie Bay sits nestled into the southern tip of Lasair, named for the sunsets that reflect off of its waters at the end of each day. At the apex of the bay sits Almina, a bustling trading port set up by traders from the south. Sailing across that sea is a lengthy and harrowing journey, but those that ply those waters can make a fair bit of coin on both sides of the water. Thanks to that trade, the area surrounding the bay may grow to rival the City-States Region for preeminence on Lasair some day.  

Korth'an Forest

[Full Article] Rising tall into misty skies, the trees of the Korth'an Forest serve as the home to a great number of sentient species. Centaurs, fae, avenfolk, and others live within the forest and in small settlements along the coast. Most prominent, however, are the Wood Elves - the southernmost enclave of elves in Lasair. The species within the Korth'an region have bound together in a loose confederation - the Korth'an Conclave - to help ensure peace between them and humans, and to facilitate trade between the forest, the southern continents, and to a lesser degree the City-States Region. The Elves in particular remember the Dragonscourge and the havoc it wreaked to the north and while they are extremely distrustful of humankind they prefer peaceful coexistence to the alternative.
