1.4 Demise of the Faithful - A Party of Thieves

General Summary

The party, still at Lord Diego's festivities, continue their investigation. Through their combined efforts of thievery they learn Diego might not be as guilty as they initially thought.

Initial Investigations

The party, still split up, each began listening in on as well as joining conversations to see if they could learn anything from other guests. It seemed the main talk of the night was about how a flying disc had been thrown through a window in Lord Diego's office, breaking both the window and a family heirloom. At this time Gorky introduced himself to Lord Diego, however he left a less than favorable first impression.

Diego's Office

Paathio, becoming tired of the party decided to see if she could do some investigating from outside the household. She quickly found the broken window that led to Lord Diego's office. There she discovered a couple interesting things. She found a magic circle drawn on the floor, a book of the occult containing three bookmarks, an amulet containing the symbol of Tymora, and a book detailing the worship and history of Tymora. After a bit further investigation she discovered that Diego's desk had a hidden compartment, one she broke parts of the desk to access. Within she found a letter addressed to Diego sent by Lord Torix Emerald. The letter was threatening Lord Diego into selling back the mines. After finding all this Paathio decided to leave the office and meet up with the rest of her party, though before doing this she left a note apologizing for the break in and thefts.

The Party Meeting

Shortly after, the adventuring party save for Azarik met up to discuss what they had discovered. Initially Azarik stayed inside to finish up his date with Teeree, and ended up having a conversation with Diego. During this conversation he learned that the reason he was collecting payments from Cornelius Esker was to pay for a family heirloom Hyacinth had broken when threw the disc. He would soon after join the main party in their discussion. During this discussion Gorky identified the magic circle as a teleportation circle. The bookmarks on the book of the occult were all dedicated to curses, one on general information on curses, one on types of curses relating to luck, and the third on how to lift curses. The party also realized that Diego was one of the two men they had seen in their visions Their findings led Paathio and Azarik to begin to believe that he may actually be innocent. The party soon decided to speak with him directly. Before they head inside though, they spot a grey cat watching them. Dart is eventually able to catch and befriend the cat, and she takes it with them after naming it Tertodotoxin, or Tetro for short.

Back to the Festivities

At this point the party decided to reenter the house and speak with Lord Diego directly. They found him in the common room and sent Gorky and Rexis to speak with him. After speaking with him they decide to investigate the one part of the house they hadn't been in yet, the locked room in the library. With Paathio and Gorky distracting the guard Wren broke into the room and discovered it was a treasury. At which point she began to line per pockets. After taking a couple handfuls she tried to sneak her way out but tripped and fell. At which point more guards filed in and caught her in the act. Thankfully though Diego let them go, while also showing them their way out of the house.
