Undead

After dying every being come back as either a spirit or an undead. It is called Afterlife.
There are various kinds of undead. Which one the creature come as back depends on various aspects, mostly the circumstances of death.
Necromancers have developed a way to force-transform dead into undead and control them.

Symptoms

Although different undead have different characteristics some are pretty common.
The most common undead traits are: Immune to instant death effects, Disease, Poison, sleep. They don't need to eat or sleep or go to toilet. They do not tire and become exhausted. Undead are not at risk of death from aging. Often the undead lose most of their intelligence.
Undead are unable to reproduce.

Sequela

The creature adapts the characteristics and appearance of the type of undead that it becomes. In case of becoming a type of spectral undead the old corpse is left behind. In case of one of the basic undead types it's the corpse that is transformed.

History

Afterlife and thus Undeath has always been part of the world as far as the history goes.

Cultural Reception

In old times when religion was still an active part of the world people believed that those who came back as undead had been leading sinful lives and would later go to hell once dead for good.
