Selenia
Selenia is the capital city of the lordship of the same name and the seat of House Selenis. It has been ruled by House Selenis for centuries and is currently under the leadership of Lord Ealdir Selenis. It is located on the shores of the Silver Sea at the mouth of the river Dadeon. The river acts as the border between Selenia and the adjacent lordships of Matheor and Angeleor.
Its location makes Selenia one of the most prominent trading cities on the shores of the Silver Sea. The river Dadeon comes down from the Silver Mountains. On it, goods produced in the Silver Mountains such as dragonsteel and silver can be transported to the city to be sold. Aside from fish and local produce, these goods are a pillar of selenian trade.
The city of Selenia has five different districts. The oldest one is the citadel, which contains the ancestral home of House Selenis and other buildings associated with the ruling family. It is located at the southern edge of the city, overlooking the Silver Sea. The citadel is separated from the rest of the city with a moat and tall stone walls. In the event of an attack on the city, the citadel would be House Selenis' last line of defence.
Immediately at the mouth of the river outside the city limits, the harbour district is located. This district contains the city's trade harbour and mostly consists of storehouses and other buildings needed for a functional trade harbour. Few people live there, and those who do either work on the docks or are very poor. The harbour district does lie outside the city walls, but it is also guarded and lightly fortified.
Since Selenia has two separate harbours, it is important to distinguish between them. When referring to the harbour district, people always mean the trade harbour, but immediately below the citadel, there is a military port. This port is populated and used by the navy and is the most prominent military port in Eleonis. The district also houses the non-naval soldiers stationed in the city. Because of this, the district is usually called the barrack port or the casern harbour.
Between the citadel and the trade habour, the market district is found. It is characterized by multiple market squares, where the various goods are traded, as well as many inns to house travelling merchants. Most people who live there are very wealthy, which is reflected in the architecture of the buildings. The market district is known as a place where one should keep an eye on one's purse, because the sheer amount of rich people there makes it a popular place for thieves and pickpockets.
Exept for the very rich, who mostly live in the market district, and the very poor of the harbour district, every kind of person can be found living in the remaining district of Selenia. This district is sometimes called northern Selenia, though it mostly isn't named. A person from the other three districts will generally specify which one, so if no specification occurs, it can be assumed that the person lives in northern Selenia.
