Beatrix Bheuren van Crassen
Princess Beatrix Bheuren, Countess van Crassen (a.k.a. Beatitude)
Beatrix Bheuren is an Alderni Tiefling, though she typically uses illusions to appear human. She is the only daughter of Hildegard Bheuren and the granddaughter of Queen Margaretha IV Bheuren of Aldernord; she is thus currently second in line to the Alderni throne.
Personal History
Beatrix's inhuman nature was noted when she was a child; this was considered politically compromising, and so she was sent to the Academy at Gildenschloss, and taught magic from a young age in order to allow her to disguise her fiendish appearance. In her infancy she suffered an illness which resulted in the paralysis of her tail; this eventually led to it having to be amputated when she was a child, though whilst she did have to relearn how to walk following this it has not led to any serious difficulties in her adult life. She was recalled to the royal court at the age of sixteen, and by all accounts was considered something of a problem for her family - considered ill-disciplined and dissolute by her mother, she readily admits to being impulsive, obstinate, and easily bored; unimpressed with her petty acts of rebellion, and mindful that she was in all likelihood second in line to the throne, the Queen compelled her to join the Queensknife under the name of "Beatitude" with the hope that she might develop some more self-discipline and eventually be in a position to take command of that organisation as would be expected of her. Beatrix was assigned to the Alderni expedition to Kab Melekh, where she narrowly avoided death at the hands of the shapeshifter Tzatu'yshan, who murdered the rest of the expedition in an attempt to gain access to the tomb. She was rescued by a band of adventurers, who she employed to escort her back to Aldernord. On her return, she was ambushed by Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci, the Castellan-Regent of the Queensknife, who attempted to assassinate her; however she survived and with the support of Diandra Salus-Mettvergen has been able to establish control over the office of the Queensknife.Talents and Abilities
Beatrix is a skilled spellcaster, with a particular talent for simple illusions; she appears to be able to change her visual appearance at will, and maintain the illusion indefinitely - though she has remarked that she cannot maintain it whilst sleeping, and that these illusions have no tactile component to them. She has shown the ability to cast several warding rituals, and is fairly competent with a sword. Beatrix has claimed that she cannot be sensed by most forms of divination; she has not explained the source of this ability, but has implied that it is some form of magical effect placed upon her by one of her allies.Relatives and Relationships
Beatrix is the niece of Fiordelise Votellian van Bovelden, the Matriarch of House Votellian, with whom she enjoys a closer and more supportive relationship than with her mother. She is thus also the cousin of Galiana "Guidance" Votellian, another tiefling who is currently a senior apprentice at the Gildenschloss Academy. During her teenage years Beatrix was in a relationship with Motion Ashbrook-Sarren, who was a student at the Gildenschloss Academy at the same time as she was. The relationship was broken off when she was recalled to the Royal Household at Ysberinge; however whilst at the time she believed that it was Motion's decision to end the relationship, it later emerged that this had been orchestrated by several individuals including her mother, as well as the Castellan-Regent of the Queensknife, Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci. Integral to this was a forged letter that was sent to Motion on her behalf, which not only broke Motion's heart but caused her to manifest a Hound of Ill Omen; Beatrix is not yet aware that this was in fact written, under duress, by a woman would would later become one of her closest allies - Queensknife agent Nera Arrighetti-Sarren. After Motion was freed from the Web of Fate and had her memory restored, Beatrix and Motion have now fully reconciled - though yet remains unclear what exactly this will mean for their relationship going forwards.Allies
Beatrix has a number of allies within the Gilded Tower, including Diandra Salus-Mettvergen. She has command of the Queensknife, and is in the process of purging it of elements that were conspiring against her; her principle ally and aide-de-camp within the Queensknife is Knight-Intelligencer Nera Arrighetti-Sarren. She has also mentioned having a number of contacts and allies among more politically radical groups in Aldernord.Enemies
Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci, at the time Castellan-Regent of the Queensknife, tried to assassinate Beatrix in 1344, though was killed in the attempt. Whilst Guillaume's co-conspirators in the Everstorm Covenant have been killed or apprehended, the movement appears to be linked to a larger conspiracy against House Bheuren, led by members of House Canthor and Baron Ortolf Kruger-YsernPolitical Affiliation
Beatrix has stated that she has some political sympathies with factions in Aldernord who seek to reform the monarchy and abolish the institution of serfdom.
