Tomb of the Five Physicians

The Tomb of the Five Physicians is a ruined structure in the Sternespass, which is believed to have been constructed by the Tevashi during the time of the Faceless Kings. The true purpose of the Tomb is not well established.   The Tomb contained five sarcophagi, in which were interred the mummified bodies of five Dwarves, variously described by inscriptions as physicians or scribes. Each appears to have been prepared in a fashion to allow them to act as an eternal archive, specifically regarding medical information as it pertained to various sentient species:
  • Amnazutosh - Humans, and likely the other humanoid peoples such as Dwarves, Orc and Halflings.
  • Yoshazathura - Elves, Eladrin, and possibly other Fey.
  • Geshtiheshet - The "Winged Ones", including the Kenku
  • Erubal - The goblinoid peoples - Goblins, Hobgoblins, Bugbears - as well as the Bhuka and some partial information regarding the Verdan.
  • Avroel - Dragons and their kin.
The sarcophagi in which the five physicians were interred were more than simple vessels for the dead, but appeared to contain sophisticated magical technology which allowed communication with spirits of those interred there, and granted the physicians the ability to perform certain kinds of healing upon members of the appropriate species. The full capabilities of this magic are not well understood, though it appears to have been able to restore the Eusocial Bond to individual goblins and bugbears, and to transform an elf into an eladrin.   Following the fall of the Faceless Kings, it appears that the cult of Kheth occupied the complex for a period of time, until they, too, were forced to abandon it. The tomb is thought to have then been lost until 1334AK, when a landslide uncovered the entrance, allowing a party of adventurers including Yarabog and Emrys na Heilyn to enter the tomb and plunder it for the treasures of the Kheth cult - but in doing so activated the complex's defences - which included a Living Spell that produced a deadly poisonous gas, and the animation of the five physicians to repel those who sought to disturb the tomb.   The tomb was subsequently reopened in 1344AK by Yarabog, in an attempt to life the "curse" which they believed to have been placed upon them by disturbing the tomb.
