Session 2: Rescue Mission

General Summary

After a nights rest the party geared up to make the journey east, to make the long trek towards the Caer's to see if they could help Cora's situation with their son. As they were walking out the gate the they were met by a guide named Birch Wayfeld, a stout halfing who was well known in throughout Ten Towns. They would need his help, especially with the massive blizzard heading directly their way. Against better judgement the party journeyed east, trekking through the blizzard and nearly getting lost.   As they entered Targos, a stray sled dog, who looked seriously ragged, burst through the gate and was running through the streets. Atalanta and Amelia befriended the dog, and we quickly learned the dog's name was Boy. We followed him to his master's home, and met Keegan Velryn. He explained that his husband Garret was hired to lead some adventurers up Kelvin's Cairn, by way of Caer-Konig. Something must have gone wrong for Boy to have returned here without him.   The party geared up and left to try and locate Garret with Boy leading the way. With Birch and Boy's assistance, you were able to get ahead of the passing blizzard and make good time to neighboring town to the north, Termalaine. After staying the evening there, the party decided to take the most direct route which would take them through the Dwarven Valley, just south of Kelvin's Cairn.
Traveling into the subterranean valley you found evidence of a great battle here, but no evidence of anyone remaining. Passing through the cavern you found the primary entrance into Kharadad, the great dwarven fortress deeper within the valley, had been caved in and deemed impassable. Without conflict you progressed through the remaining section of the tunnel complex and made your way back out into the open frigidness Hours across the frozen tundra, you finally made it to Kelvin's Cairn where you came across the remains of a camp site with provisions for at least four people, along with finding 3 more sled dogs. Through a brief conversation, Birch learned of Yeti in the Cairn, and the party made their way up, narrowly surviving an avalanche along the way.   You were able to locate Garret in a cave off to the side, with the remains of unknown other creatures. He was in rough shape, nearly dead and missing an arm. You did what you could to restore life to him and managed to get him back down the mountain to Boy and the other dogs. Before he left, he asked us to find the others and rescue who we could.
Further up the mountain, we came across a larger cave that had sounds of a woman crying out and monstrous creatures coming from it. Upon entering the cave, a Goliath's head, we presume to be Mokingo's, was mounted on a pike in a territorial warning, likely meaning stay out. Not being particularly stealthy, the yeti were alerted to our presence and we sprang into action. Two adult yetis and a cub later, you saved the hafling woman, Perilou, and were preparing to leave when she asked about Astrix.   Traversing further up the mountain still, you came across a frozen tiefling next to a partially buried under snow body wearing blue boots. Perilou identified the tiefling as Astrix and, after a brief moment of mourning, began to pickpocket the body. Bulwark took the coin purse from her, and moved to inspecting the blue boots. Morthos investigated Astrix's body, only to find she had frozen to death where she sits, and that she had some kind of potion bottle in her possession as well as a spellbook containing several spells. Bulwark identified the boots as Boots of the Winterlands.   With daylight quickly fading, the party made their way back to the Dwarven Vally to seek shelter for the evening.
