Session 35: Big Blue Surprise

General Summary

Bolivar’s Summons (Sessions 31 - 33) After about a day and a half of travel you made your way to Yartar late one evening. There were villagers trying to make their way into the town, all of them very uneasy and desperate. You could see that there was carnage all around and the bodies of several bulettes, the creatures that seemed to be making the giant holes you have seen along the way. Once inside the city walls, Delsaphine met up an older man. They were speaking in a language that could not be understood by Vel or Eld, who tried to eavesdrop. Eld did see them go into a building that was partially destroyed; here the older man seemed to be explaining something to Delsaphine and showing her something on the floor, a circle of sorts. Before battle broke out he handed her a wooden coin and all Eld could make out were the words, "The Society".   You recognize this coin as the same one Frilnik tossed to Catnip right before he teleported away.   The town was then attacked by a group of drow who snuck into the city. You fought them off until a number of them narrowly escaped, but managed to capture one in the process. You learned that were led by a drow mage named Taal, and an Mind Flayer named Draac. They were hired by Duke Zalto, the fire giant king, to steal the "Dawn Titan" from the dwarven fortress of Gauntlgrym. You then turned the drow over to the authorities of Yartar.   The next morning you were awoken early by a few members of Delsaphine’s crew and brought above deck. Upon the request of High Sorcerer Vaeril of Everlund, Harper Kolbaz (the man that Delspahine was meeting with the night before) took you from the Airship to a summoning circle located in the center of the Yartar. High Sorcerer Vaeril had information pertaining to the whereabouts of your father.   Harper Kolbar, an elderly frail old man, explained to you how this summoning circle was connected to others across the continent located in various cities. They were each controlled by mages of the the Harper Faction. The Harpers serve as spies for various Lords across the realm.   After a ritual you were instantaneously warped through time and space, and instantaneously teleported to Everlund where you found yourself in Vaeril’s chambers within the Moongleam Tower in Everlund - where you had been previously, right after you had won the Trial of Champions. He was sitting at his desk, as if he was expecting you.   As you talked with him and shared the information you had, he disclosed the following with you: Your father, Zarod Blackblade was indeed alive. After narrowly escaping the battle with you at Beorunna’s Well, he retreated to the great forge of Ironslag, deep within the Ice Spires to the northeast. There he has sworn fealty to the fire giant leader, Duke Zalto, in exchange for his tutelage.   Zarod was able to do so because he has information pertaining to Maegera the Dawn Titan. Vaeril explained to you that Magera is a mighty fire primordial that the drow stole from the dwarven fortress of Gauntlgrym. With the help of Draac and Taal, the drow were able to somehow trap him in a magical iron flask. Removing the iron flask’s stopper frees Maegera from captivity, whereupon the primordial is compelled to obey the commands of whoever freed it for 1 hour. Once that hour has elapsed, the primordial goes berserk and attacks nearby creatures indiscriminately while incinerating its surroundings.   It is currently unclear what Duke Zalto wishes to do with Magera, however if this ancient primordial goes unbridled, it has the potential to bring about the end of all life on Faerun.   As your conversation was coming to an end, you felt the ground beneath you rumble, and could hear the shouts and cries coming from the people outside the tower you are currently in. You both rushed to the window to see massive boulders nearly 10-feet in diameter raining down from the sky, crashing into the buildings within the walls of Everlund. Just then you heard the emergency horn sound, and guards rush to the city center. You look up to see a boulder heading straight towards you in the Moongleam Tower, at the last second right before impact, Vaeril quickly activated a ward that deflected the boulder from impacting the tower. With a gasp, he said softly under his breath in bewilderment, “Lyn Armaal…”   As boulders kept plummeting down from the sky, you saw a single floating tower atop a cloud, and then an entire castle emerge from the clouds nearly a mile above the city. Mounted guards on griffons began to mobilize and head up towards the tower, followed by other powerful mages of Everlund that had the ability to fly by magical means.   In a hurried panic, Vaeril looked to you and tasked you with evacuating the people out of Everlund and to seek refuge in the City of Silverymoon to the northeast. With a burst of arcane energy, he jumped out the window to follow his compatriots up to the floating cloud castle in the sky.   The streets were filled with uproar and panic. Mass hysteria had overcome the once great city of Everlund, which was moments away from total destruction. You immediately made your way to Danivarr’s House, the tavern in which your brother ran. Your breath was taken away as you saw a boulder had nearly destroyed the entire building. Rushing amongst the wreckage, you saw the familiar freckled face and ginger hair of Elissa, one of your oldest friends who grew up with you and Dral. Her body lay, lifeless amongst the rubble with several other members of Dral’s crew, The Tavern Brawlers. After a quick search you, you were not able find any signs of Dral.   Over the course the next moments, which felt like hours, you were able to escort a mass of people out of the city. You watched from afar as boulders continued to rain down upon the now Ruins of Everlund and could hear the far distant sounds of battle and explosions from up above in the floating cloud fortress of Lyn Armaal.   Out of nearly 24,000 that inhabited Everlund, roughly 5,000 remain including the Speaker of the Town Vatrice Stormwright, who pardoned you for your crime of treason. The remaining members of the Council of Elders were either missing, killed in the attack, or joined the fray in the castle above.   With no signs or word from your brother, Dral, you and Vatrice are currently leading the remaining few thousand survivors of Everlund to the City of Silverymoon to seek refuge.
Met back up with Harshnag who has been waiting at The Eye.   Talked with the Oracle   Was surprise attacked by an ancient blue dragon, which resulted in the destruction of the entire temple of the Eye of Annam.   The Ancient Blue Dragon, Harshnag, and Eldred's pet blood hawk Vi'sha were lost in the wreckage.   Delsaphine identified the blue dragon as Iymrith, the Doom of the Desert.   Took the airship to the Ice Spire Mountains, where the great forge of Ironslag lies deep within in mountain.
