Session 40: Vel, Why Are You Walking Funny?
General Summary
As you made your way through the modified grand entrance of Citadel Adbar, you were met with open arms by King Harnoth. Upon your entry, the Zhentarium dwarf whom you rescued from Ironslag, Jasper Dimmerchasm quickly made his way into a nearby tavern
When you made it into the King's chambers, you finally had a moment to sit and relax, while the King was woken up in this late hour. Over the course of the evening you learned the following information:
The reason for the fortifications in the entryway is due to the looming cloud giant threat. Some of the towns surrounding the Evermoors including Everlund, Olostin’s Hold, Calling Horns, and most recently Nesmé have been completely decimated. The status of Herald's Holdfast is currently unknown - this is the location of the fammed Herald's Library and where Zephyr's childhood best friend, Worm, is studying under the tutelage of Yorster (see NPC's section above for more info on Worm and Yorster).
Countess Sansouri is responsible for these attacks, high up in her floating castle of Lynn Armaal. The Countess is wise and brilliant but King Harnoth wouldn’t put it past her to attack Silverymoon eventually due to her obsession of collecting dragon relics.
In preparation of this threat, the dwarves have dug deep in the mines and discovered explosive black powder. The dwarves have engineers two large cannons in the Grand Entryway in the event that the cloud giant castle comes this far east. Delving down that deep into the vast unknown underdark however comes with a price...
The node of black powder they were following led them in a chasm in which a demonic presence occupies. Many dwarves lost their lives in defense, including Ulga's father, who was the lead foreman of the excursion. They eventually had to seal off that wing of the mine completely because they were unable to contain the threat and did not want the demonic presence to seep into Citadel Adbar.
Ivellios managed to sniff out that King Harnoth's twitch was more than just a tick. Upon inquiring with Shane, you found out that he is actually a doppleganger that the members of the High Council hired. The real King Harnoth actually died in the War, however in these troubled times, the people needed a leader. The doppleganger is essentially a puppet to the High Councils demands, however the "King" sometimes gets carried away with his decision making.
You eventually retired back to your bedchambers within the King's wing and were awakened the next morning with breakfast, and the company of the beardless dwarf and old acquaintance, Shane Tranter (see NPC's section above for more info on Shane). After going into the anti-scrying room, Shane filled you in on some of the info he recently learned about Zephyr's necklace, that lined up with the knowledge you had recently learned of the stone.
The next 4 days were filled with resting, shopping, and fulfilling bribes from magical items (Vel has some mighty fine gauntlets). The shop in which Shane's partner, Enchanter Kyren, fulfilled the majority of these orders; some of the enchantments will take several weeks.
At the end of the 4th day while some of you were settling for the evening, Zephyr fell completely unconscious - he was completely dead. After several painstaking moments he came back to life, however the stone on his chest was inert (still there but completely deactivated).
The next morning you all awoke and you are currently on your way to the Ice Mountain Infirmary to question the surviving dwarves from the attacks in the mines.
