Libertas
The small city of Libertas is a standard example of a fortified settlement in Herelin. It is surrounded by palisades, which are a type of wooden fence made from stakes driven into the ground. These palisades are high enough to prevent enemies from climbing over them and provide protection against attacks.
The city is west of the capital, Veritas and is situated on a strategic location, up on one of the area's greatest hills where it would be easier to defend. It has a sizeable population of peasants, craftsmen, and traders, who are protected by a high soldier population. The soldiers are responsible for the city's defense and maintaining law and order. The reputable strength of the military force in Libertas has been a sought after resource to many of the council kings.
The soldiers there are well-trained and equipped with weapons such as swords and maces. They constantly patrol the walls and gates of the palisades, keeping watch for any signs of enemy activity. Inside the city, they are chiefly responsible for maintaining order, resolving conflicts and arresting criminals.
The temple there is more a modest monastery home to a handful of knights and one or two confessors. The people of Libertas are frequently flooding the courts daily in order attend duties of prayer or weekly attendance. Because of the city's high population but small temple, every citizen is assigned a day in which they are to attend temple services.
The city sports a bustling market square where traders sell their goods, and the town's people gather to socialize. Veritas is a self-contained community, with a tight-knit population who depends on one another for survival and protection. Despite the potential for danger from outside threats, the people have found comfort in the safety and security provided by the high soldier population and palisades that surround their home.
