Lineage from Ascalon - The Tribe of the Dumnonii
Traditional Faith: British Christian Sir Graid's Ancestry Graid is the son of Owain ap Uwain, a Cornish Knight of great renown and prowess, named Knight Banneret by Aurelius Ambrosius. He was the leader of an Eschille and Lord of Axe Hall, who died an ignoble death as his mount stumbled on a mole hill, whilst he was escaping a cuckolded husband. While he yet lived people said that he was the finest rider in all of Cornwall, and he was known for being a Generous man, yet also quite Lustful.
Sir Owain was wed to Efa nic Andros, daughter of Sir Andros of Essa, a Cornish patriarch sent into exile among the Bretons, shortly after Owain proved himself in battle against Saxon pirates on the shores of Brittany. They had two children: Sir Graid, their firstborn son, who scholars later spoke of as a just and courageous knight of Salisbury, a rider like few other.
Grainne, their daughter, born with her mother's sense and sensibilities.
Owain in turn was the son of Uwain ap Athan, a Cornish Knight who served High King Constantin faithfully and and made a sterling example during the Battle of Carlion, but was cut down by the savage Irishmen of Lyonesse.
Uwain was the son of Athan ap Conan, a warrior, known for his skills on a horse, who was slain when he failed to recognize a giant and thought the oak tree was a good target for his spear throwing. Aethan was also the son of the legendary hero, Conan Cadfael.
Sir Uwain was wed to Eurwen, a daughter of another knight in service to King Constatin, as he had already gotten her with child the month before the wedding . Owain was born a mere year before his father took a Irish blade to the throat. After Uwain died, Eurwen was wed again, by royal decree, to the dour Sir Haul, who was remembered for his Just nature, but was killed by the wild Cornovii, who served Vortigern.
With Sir Haul, Eurwen begat two sons; Sir Idris de Ascalon, known for his skills with the lance and his friendship with the peasants of his liege’s land. He serves in the family’s ancestral homeland of Ascalon, where the Count consider him to be quite the problem-solver.
Sir Sior, who took an arrow for Gorlois at the battles of Summerland. He is widely known to be a reckless knight, who charge forward with abandon, and some even claim that he hates his own life. Sir Sior is a mercenary knight, unable to settle in one place for too long.
After a tryst with an unknown Breton knight, the widow Eurwen the Shearess also had a unwanted bastard she named Aeron
Sir Aeron took service as a boy in the lands on the continent and beyond, and spent many years abroad and now serve in the army of King Idres. Aeron the Traveller is a sly and devious man with many unusual skills. His manor is in southern Lyonesse, where he keeps to council of many Druids and... that som might be considered worse. Knightly Family Members In Graid’s family, there are eight knights. Three middle-aged and five young knights. First, we have his uncles Idris and Sior, as well as the infamous Aeron. As for knights of the younger generation, we have his brother-in-law, Sir Moris ap Caern, a fellow knight of Salisbury who serves in the household of Sir Seith, the Bailiff of Elmstump. He is wed to Grainne, Graith’s younger sister.
Second, there is young Sir Trefor, who is the fourth son of his mother’s brother, Iolo of Essa. Trefor rides in service to Baron Duach of Wereside, not too far from Salisbury, where he serves as the Baron’s constable. His elder brothers, proud and fierce Cornishmen, died to Saxon raiders.
Third, Sir Owain spent much of his time as squire wooing the fair maidens of Brittany, and while the circumstances of their birth are clouded in ill repute, Sir Conan and Sir Luc have always been the protective elder brothers of Owain’s trueborn children. They earned their spurs in battle against the Irish.
A mere year after Graith’s own knighting, he heard that his younger baseborn brother, Rhett, had been knighted by Sir Conan. Rhett was conceived when their father seduced a Danish woman after Arles, and would probably have been forgotten if not for a faithful monk who brought the child to Sir Owain’s camp the following year.
