Lake Emernora
Lake Emernora is a body of water located in the western Ganuiles Mountains that feeds the Coativan River. Rumored to be haunted by the spirits of visaurants who were executed following the Declaration of Aurant Expulsion, the lake is a tourist destination for both typical and spooky recreational activities. Despite the lake's history, or perhaps because of it, the home of the Society of Unseen Living Energy is located on the eastern shore of Emernora.
History
Following the declaration of Queen Vincenta Ahyen that outlawed Power of Aura in 574, visaurants who were unable to flee persecution were taken prisoner all over the peninsula. Those initially captured from the villages surrounding Lake Emernora, 38 in total with ages ranging from 11 to 87, were taken to the center of the lake where a hole had been carved into the ice. The visaurants were thrown into the icy water with rocks chained to their ankles to drag them to the bottom.
In the years following, villagers began seeing figures on the water, especially during the winter months when the lake was frozen over. Those who slept in boats or ice fishing shanties reported having vivid dreams filled with oppressive, colorful mists, often waking up with an unexplained chill. Though nothing indicated that these were vengeful spirits, stories of the hauntings kept the superstitious members of the queen's forces away from Emernora, with even the non-superstitious among them refusing posts in the area. As the end of the Queendom of Leland drew near, the shores of Emernora had become something of a safe haven for visaurants so long as they didn't draw attention to themselves.
It is the reputation as a safe haven that likely brought the Society of Unseen Living Energy to Lake Emernora for the first Meeting of the Blessed Eyes in 743. The Society would eventually build a campus dedicated to the study of Aura on the eastern shore where it remains to this day.
Tourism
As a mountain lake, Lake Emernora attracts tourists during the warmer months who are interested in the beauty of the mountains as well as skiing, hiking, and a host of other outdoor activities. During these months the area is accessible by boat from Harmonil with some companies offering full-service cruises. Those interested in the supernatural happenings of the lake can find ghost tours and historical information in every village, as well as take a boat out to the floating memorial in the middle of the lake. The area also sees tourism from members of The Society of Unseen Living Energy coming from all over Leland for various events.
During the winter, with the lake and northern Coativan frozen over, the only reliable way to reach Emernora is by roads through the mountains that are often snow and ice covered, though there are some ice sled teams willing to travel the frozen Coativan for a premium. Those who make the journey are usually coming for the increase in supernatural sightings during this time of year.
