Declaration of Aurant Expulsion

The Declaration of Aurant Expulsion was a royal decree by Queen Vincenta Ahyen in 574 that outlawed possession and use of Power of Aura. This decree led to the mass execution of visaurants throughout Leland.

Purpose

As the title suggests, the primary purpose of the Declaration of Aurant Expulsion was to expel visaurants from Leland. This was effective immediately and mobilized queendom forces to round up visaurants all over Leland. In addition to visaurants, women who had birthed two or more visaurants (even if they weren't visaurant themselves) were also to be expelled.   Books about Aura were banned, along with all forms of study that weren't from a strictly historical perspective.   Children in the future who would present as visaurant were to be removed from their families and placed into Queendom custody. It was not explicitly stated in the decree, but the implication was that the children would be executed.

Historical Details

History

A few years prior to the Declaration, Leland saw the death of Queen Mathilde Ahyen by poisoning at the hand of a visaurant advisor. The rumor, however, was that Vincenta had become so corrupted by her own paranoia that she no longer trusted her mother to rule properly and had poisoned her mother in order to take the throne. Following her coronation, Vincenta began changing policies within her court and surrounding areas to exclude visaurants and descandnels from society because of their immunity to her Power of Persuasion. She especially held a fear of transaurants who would be able to easily manipulate her.

Public Reaction

Public reaction was general shock, but with the policies that had been put in place over the previous few years, there was little surprise over it. Most people, especially those in southern Leland, didn't know a visaurant in their day-to-day lives, so it had little affect on the general public.    Visaurants were, understandably, terrified by the news. Some tried to flee, others tried to fight the soldiers that came for them and their families.

Legacy

The Declaration of Aurant Expulsion is believed by many historians to be the beginning of the end of the Queendom of Leland. It sowed seeds of discord in northern Leland where the majority of visaurants lived, especially in the region of the Ganuiles Mountains occupied by modern day Irocra. It is generally agreed that Silunsei, the anonymous leader of the rebellious group Silver's Claw, took their name from an old Irocai fable, indicating that the person held a connection to people affected by the Declaration.   Many visaurants in the north who were able to escape execution ended up finding sanctuary along the border of The Wasteland while many in the south fled to the southern most parts of the Cour Islands. These areas, along with a few settlements in remote mountain regions, have the highest concentration of visaurants in modern day.   Outside of the political and historical implications, the Declaration brought aurant studies to a halt for centuries. Generations worth of knowledge was lost within a few years as visaurants were executed and books on the subject were burned. It wouldn't be until the formation of the Society of Unseen Living Energy in 743 that public, large-scale study of Aura would once again occur.

Term

The Declaration had no expiration date, but it would cease to be in effect with the fall of the Queendom in 711.
