Loshkva (lohshk vah)

If they weren't singlehandedly responsible for this island operating like clockwork, they'd have all been hanged for conspiracy, treason, murder, and who knows what else by now.
— unnamed resident of Dovala
The Loshkva is the most powerful family in Dovala. Having its roots of power in the de facto Havenvern Island government during the early years of the confederacy, the patriarch at the time was the only governor to survive following the violent political take over of the island by Vinato. Historical loyalties and alliances allowed for the family to consolidate power in the shadows and, over the years, the Loshkva have come to unofficially control both Dovala and the Vinato-appointed Havenvern government.

History

Humble Beginnings

Prior to Dovren Loshkva becoming governor of Dovala in 1032, the Loshkva name held no importance. The family was of average means and lived on the outskirts of Dovala bordering Moshkyan. Dovren had great interest in the dark powers of the creatures of the forest, particularly Crovins, and was able to train a small void to do his bidding. As he grew older, he took an interest in politics and trained those around him to follow his directives just as he had the crovins. In 1032 he would be elected governor of Dovala.

Reforms and Rebellion

As the governor of Dovala during the Vinatian reforms of the 1030s, Dovren adamantly defended the rights of his city and his island to govern themselves without provincial interference. In some interactions with the delegation sent from Marrah he was described as downright hostile. Though all the governors engaged in conspiracy to protect their power, it is believed that he was primarily responsible for the fake trials and executions of the delegation members who remained on Havenvern during the winter of 1038. These actions would lead to military action by Vinato authorities to take control of the island.   During the Clocktower Uprising, Dovren served as a symbol of hope to the people of Dovalaas the only Havenvernian governor to evade capture. He would be responsible for ending the rebellion in 1039 by negotiating for his freedom with Vinatian authorities in exchange for using his influence to aid in rebuilding the island government.

Building a Dynasty

In the years following the uprising, Dovren would gather influence over the newly appointed council and other powerful entities within Dovala and on Havenvern. Though he would never again formally hold a position of political authority, Dovren quickly made himself the most powerful man in Dovala. His children would grow into that power themselves, further spreading the family's influence. By the 1100s, the Loshkva had their fingers in every major political body and industry on the island despite publicly having no connection to them. Over the past two centuries this hold over the island has only grown--nothing happens on Havenvern without the knowledge of the Loshkva.   Dovren's obsession with crovins has also been passed down through the generations. The family is known to be the only keepers of a domesticated void which they are rumored to use against anyone who might oppose them.
