Silver's Claw was the rebel group responsible for the Silver Eagle Rebellion which eventually led to the downfall of Queen
Elena Ahyen and the end of the Queendom of Leland.
First Appearance
There isn't much evidence pointing to when the group officially formed, but the first attack on the Queendom claimed by the group was in 706. The attack occurred on a vessel carrying political prisoners that was docked at
Sudlan Bay Trading Post on its way to
Harmonil. Bird-masked figures snuck aboard ship and disposed of the soldiers remaining on guard.
Aggregants in the group then placed over-energized stones around the ship that would be set off upon the rest of the soldiers' return. Shortly after escaping with the prisoners, the ship exploded, killing those on board and releasing copies of
Silunsei's Manifesto into the air for the witnesses on the docks to read and share.
The political prisoners rescued from custody were part of a previously failed revolution in south-east Leland. Presumably they were accepted into Silver's Claw where their knowledge and resources could be put to use.
Achieving Goals
The primary goal of Silver's Claw was to unseat the royal line and institute a system that would no longer be lead by a tyrant. That system wouldn't become apparent until after the fall of the queen, but word spread of a movement by the people to no longer serve the whims of
imperants. Silver's Claw sought to accomplish this by sowing seeds of discord throughout Leland to encourage the common people to rise up. They took a slow and methodical route, moving toward the seat of power in Harmonil over the course of several years.
Structure
Though there was a leader, business was conducted mostly by the inner circle. Each of the inner circle knew only of what was happening in their region in the event that they were captured and Commanded to divulge information. They knew each other only by code names and only interacted while wearing bird masks so as not to be able to identify each other. They communicated with local rebel leaders via secret messengers carrying letters written in special spell script. These leaders were responsible for local recruitment and had wide discretion for what they could do so long as they obeyed orders and didn't interfere with the grand plan.
Recruitment
Meetings were held in secret locations accessed only through the use of code words and
enflux messages. Potential recruits who passed preliminary testing--usually involving being unknowingly surveilled and thoroughly investigated--were given the challenge of locating a fake meeting place on their own. If they succeeded, they would be drugged and taken to the actual meeting location where they would need to further prove themselves. If they passed these tests, they were welcomed to the group. If they didn't, they were drugged and left somewhere in the city so they would have no idea where they had been.
Mysterious Leader
Silver's Claw was started and lead by someone known only as Silunsei. No one knows the true identity of Silunsei, whether they were male or female, or even if they ever actually existed. Historians believe that if Silunsei was real, they were likely of
Irocai descent, believing the pseudonym to be a reference to Silunsei the Tongue Thief, a character from an Irocai fable known for cutting the tongues from criminals' mouths.
After the successful overthrow of the queen, Silunsei never made their identity known and never tried to claim power for themself. Instead, the power vacuum was filled by Silunsei's inner circle who claimed that the figure only wanted to see the end of a tyrannical rule so that those with better, fairer ideas could be in control. This is why some believe Silunsei was never a real person, merely a figure made up by the so-called inner circle so their organization had someone to rally around.
