The Wasteland

The Wasteland is a formerly inhabited stretch of land north of the Ganuiles Mountains that was rendered uninhabitable following the retreat of the Invaders during The Great Invasion.

Ever Changing Landscape

Natural Beauty

Before the Great Invasion, the Wasteland was a temperate forest region and home of the Ozuslic. Though the forests were mysterious, they were teeming with life.

During the Invasion

During the invasion, the sheer number of troops marching south through the area devastated the environment, but it was still green and was able to grow back during the years the invaders spent in Leland.

The Retreat

As well described in myth and legend of Leland, in 2AN Carina Ahyen Commanded the invaders to return from where they came and burn everything behind them once they crossed the Ganuiles. Unfortunately for those that called the area home, they were very efficient. Everything as far as the eye could see was rendered to ash, poisoning water sources and driving all forms of life from the area.

The Modern Wasteland

Looking north from the Ganuiles, the Wasteland still appears to be just that despite the fact that more than a thousand years have passed. Descendants of the Ozuslic, called the Rezuslic, reside deep in the heart of the Wasteland, though they haven't had contact with outsiders in over a thousand years. Those who choose to wander into the Wasteland risk certain death, and no one who has endeavored to cross it has ever returned.

Conditions

Observed

From the outside, the land remains charred and grey and a thick fog often covers the area.

Actual

Most of the Wasteland remains uninhabitable, but not due to natural forces. The Rezuslic have been purposely poisoning the areas surrounding their lands to deter outsiders from trying to cross. While the inhabited lands are harsh and swamp-like, natural life has found a way to return.

Folklore

Spirits of the Rezuslic

The northern peoples of Leland claim to see figures in the fog covering the Wasteland. They believe them to be the spirits of the Rezuslic who stubbornly returned to their homeland only to perish in the harsh conditions. Because there has been no contact with the Rezuslic since they entered the Wasteland the general belief is that none of them survived and now haunt their poisoned homeland as vengeful spirits.
