Worldember 2021
I honestly didn't plan on doing Worldember since I anticipated being creatively wiped from my NaNoWriMo exploits and wouldn't have any time to prepare or the energy to continue another hefty writing challenge, but since I've bowed out of NaNo this year, I'm going to give it a shot. Not only that, but I'm aiming to be an overachiever. My goal is 25K, which I think is definitely doable given what I accomplished during Summer Camp, but I would love to hit 50K to make up for my NaNo failure.
Areas of focus
- Complete Green Thumb, Golden Tongue Character Bios - I've been meaning to do this since I joined WA and only gotten so far as to give them character portraits. They're far more developed that the characters from this year's NaNovel, it's just a matter of sitting down and putting it into words. It will also be helpful for when I finally write the next novel I have planned around the Canmore family.
- Expand Magic System - I have the basics of Leland's magic system established, but I'd like to explore specializations and the more outside-the-box applications of abilities.
- Leland Confederacy - I have a rudimentary understanding of the judicial system and the basic structure of the Confederacy, but I'd like to establish the inner workings of the Confederacy as a whole and the governments of the individual provinces.
- South East Leland - It seems that most of my novels take place or feature characters from the north and west, so the south east parts of the peninsula have been neglected when it comes to world building. Who lives here? What cultures from the past influence the area in current day? What's the environment like? Notable physical and manmade landmarks? So many questions, so little time.
- Explain the Isolation - Why has no one had contact with anyone outside of Leland in over 1000 years? Sure, the wasteland prevents travel by land, but what about sea and air?
Is work going to be absolutely insane in December? Yes, but am I insane enough to try for 25,000 words of worldbuilding while dealing with it all? Apparently so.
