Evergrace

Evergrace is a city of memories and traditions.   No one knows the origin of the strange pools that lie deep within the massive cathedral at the center of the city. What's commonly known even outside the city is that the bodies of any Evergrace citizen that perish are to be returned to the pools, and that newborn children in Evergrace are taken to be "baptized" in them at a young age. This process passes on some of the skills and memories of a citizen whose body was committed to the pool, leading to a slow blossoming through the life of the citizen of extra skills, knowledge, wisdom and perspective that make a citizen of Evergrace both intellectually diverse and a font of sometimes surprising knowledge.   The nature of this gift makes immigration a complicated issue in Evergrace. Should outsiders who settle there be permitted into the pool? Should their children receive some of the precious memories that were left by previous citizens of Evergrace? Who gets to decide who's a member of the community, and what will the community become as a result?   Evergrace is meant to represent the classic conservative philosophy of Edmund Burke. It's ability to pass on memories raises issues of identity, community, continuity and tradition.
