The First Dubrian War
The First Dubrian War was a year and a half long engagement that included unsuccessful sieges laid against Arrund and Vesteem (both Dubrian held military outposts at the time). While not a particularly intense conflict when compared with the Kraemian War of Secession, it laid the groundwork for future conflicts and caused resentment on both sides of the war.
The Conflict
Prelude
The buildup to the First Dubrian War, as it would later come to be known, came about as Grast set out to better secure his territory, though primarily against Fonzia rather than Faheem. Regardless, the construction of the fortresses of Vesteem and Arrund were seen by citizens of Dubria as justification to settle further east, and by the officials as justification to claim taxes from villages well outside their own jurisdiction.
Deployment
The armies of Jarneff opened the war, and it began as a march of troops into what was unquestionably Dubrian lands, and even laying siege to the newly built fortresses of Fort Vesteem and Arrund. Faheem's troops had great numbers and enthusiasm, but had not seen proper warfare in over a century and were poorly drilled, allowing the numerically inferior forces of Dubria to hold them out until the first (and only) winter of the war.
Outcome
Jarneff's concerns that Dubria would lay claim to lands that belonged to him would come to pass. Those lands had now been won by military conflict, and the power of the flame tome, Belhul, meant that attempting to reclaim that land would never be anything but costly. Jarneff would eventually die of the injuries he suffered by it.
Aftermath
The most obvious direct effect of the First Dubrian War would be the Second Dubrian War. Following the death of Jarneff Faheem, his son, Maedus Faheem, who had been building up the military of Faheem, declared war on Dubria in an attempt to reclaim territory lost in the First Dubrian War.
