Description
Technological advancements always create new opportunities, some foreseen, some...very much not so. One such opportunity that some saw was the possibility to incorporate new technology in oneself. Gnomes in particular took well to this idea, as they do with damn near every idea. So far it's been mostly harmless, if not in practice, then at least in intent. But occasionally something dangerous happens and occasionally that may very well lead to some splattered limbs. But when the
Commonwealth of Furan tried to dissuade the
Gnomes from experimenting with altering their form through magic and technology, of course that caused them to band together instead (never tell a Gnome what he can't do, he'll do exactly that). They decided that their mad experiments at transhumanoidism were the path to the future and so they called themselves the Future Kin.
Influence
The Future Kin have been steadily gaining support within the Commonwealth, among the Gnome population at least. The Dwarves tend to be less enthusiastic about their ideas and for the first time, there might be a racial divide on the Commonwealth's hands. Meanwhile the Future Kin continue experimenting with new ideas or improving existing ones, so far the working ones have been mostly mechanical replacements for limbs and some minor practical items such as a magi-mechanical larynx or dermal body plating. Several of the higher-ups within the organization have replaced large parts of their bodies with mechanical parts as a statement of their dedication to the cause. Cosmetic changes are sometimes used as a fashion statement by the rich as well. To accompany the mechanical aspects, the organization has also started looking further into bio-thaumaturgy, the field of magic related to shaping the body.
Just spreading their ideas within the Commonwealth of Furan is not enough for the 'Future Kin' either, they believe everyone should hear their message. To this end, they have sent out Gnome emissaries to carry their message all around the world. These can be found in the
New Khalag Empire, the
Ryvallen Confederacy,
Middenland and even the
Khuagawa Tetrarchy in
Sabara. While they were not cast away or chased out in these places, in many cases they were simply considered oddities and they haven't found as much ground yet among other races. They also found themselves universally unwelcome among the
Buyantu and the
Magvar Empire. The ones most receptive to their ideas appear to be some of the
Urchae survivors in the
Lu'qua Tropics who are desperately looking for ways to regain the glory of their former grand kingdom.
