Turval {Minotaurs}

Description

The Turval are a former slave race found roaming the more inhospitable, southern parts of Sabara. They were originally created as a warrior species by a powerful Archdemon, but when said Archdemon was defeated by a group of Sabaran heroes, they lost their identities and were enslaved. Eventually, enough of them managed to break away to form a community in the southern deserts away from other civilizations. In current times, they are recognized as an independent people and no longer enslaved.

Culture

Since they were designed as a warrior race, they are strong and combative and also possess an instinctive cunning that makes them fearsome warriors. This makes them highly sought after as mercenaries to protect caravans or farmlands. Their position as bodyguards of the Uba-Toki and Fuku-Almhari of the Khuagawa Tetrarchy has guaranteed them enough political power to remain independent.   Those who have not sold out their services as warriors, tend to remain in the southern deserts as nomadic tribes. Occasionally they come north to sell their goods, particularly their Bloodsteel weaponry. The minotaurs have made a craft out of bleeding themselves and cooking their abyssal blood to process into steel. This Bloodsteel is tougher than regular unprocessed steel and can have additional properties. It's led to a relatively cheap source of weapons and armor for the Turval tribes, and thanks to the Forge-Backs - giant horizonback tortoises that carry furnaces on their back - it is a mobile source too. These Forge-Backs do not just carry furnaces either, there is usually a few other small buildings as well as plenty of tents and supplies on their backs too. This allows the Turval tribes to roam and settle pretty much anywhere.

Traditions

The Turval have a concept of a joint family, wherein the entire family and extended family live together. Families are usually tight-knit and help each other out. They also have a strong tradition of 'the guest is king'. Hospitality is important, and those who do not follow this code of conduct are considered little more than selfish animals. Positions within the tribe are denoted with increasingly complex tattoos made from an extract of a particular type of nut. The depictions usually contain elements of animals and weaponry.
