"Quiet. Do not speak ill of the emperor here. We may not be in those halls but the palace watches over the rest of the isle."
Absolutely Magnificent
The Imperial Palace is the result of the work and labour of many master masons and their apprentices and the apprentice's apprentices. Construction of the seven-sided palace began soon after the site was cleared on the
Sovereign's Isle, it was the first permanent structure to begin construction and the final one to be completed.
It is seven stories tall and has two basement levels below that and is by far the tallest building on the
isle. A grand entranceway and ornate staircases give way to lounges, meeting rooms, small armories, immaculate bedrooms, the
ketzlat stable, and more. It contains a well-stocked cellar to keep the largest kitchen in
Bral running. Most importantly within the palace resides the
Imperial Throne from which important decisions about the future of the
Bral Empire are made.
From this imposing building the
emperor can see all of the structures that house the
Imperial Court - a constant reminder that he is watching. While the
emperor himself rarely spends time watching from one of the many balconies, there are sentries posted on every corner and patrols between them.
Defending the Throne
Anyone attempting to harm the
emperor would find it difficult as the palace itself is protected by many layers of defenses. First, the attackers have to reach the
Sovereign's Isle. Then, they must survive the onslaught of archers and cannonfire to land on the island. After that they must advance up the streets - literally up as the streets have a constant upward gradient - all the way to the palace's outer wall. Then they must breach the gates and make it through the courtyard to the palace itself. After ascending all of the floors of the palace they would reach the doors to the throne room and only once through those would the
emperor be in danger - if all the delays had not yet given him a chance to escape on his
ketzlat.
