New Year's Resolutions 2024

Taking it a little easier.

"Hello there. It's 2024 and the movies I remember from ten years ago make me feel old. The Lego Movie came out in 2014. Divinity: Original Sin, the first one, was also released in 2014. I wouldn't even start writing Linebound for five more years but it has even been five years since then!"

2023 in a Nutshell

I was able to accomplish my writing goals for 2023 - if I give myself an exception for when I got COVID and took a few days off. It was a good learning experience. I did make a basic map, participate in the major World Anvil challenges, and made (or re-made) the region articles for all my nations. I even wrote every day but this was not a good thing. Often it ended up being me writing really late at night and only throwing in a couple of sentences - it was far from quality work.

Another Project

I am coming to the end of a D&D campaign and will be trying to start a new game later this year. This will require a new setting and I have ideas for it. The magic system will be fairly complex to design and the setting is still just iseas in my head. This new project - codenamed Exodus - will not be the setting for the large World Anvil challenges this year as I still wish to work on Linebound.

Cloudgrass

It has cloud in the name, how could I not read it? This amazing species by Kydra_Hunter is a true wonderplant. It does everything. Cloudgrass is great example of a plant that people have learned to use all of.

The Dracothane Colossus

Who can resist a good old skull of wisdom and power? Especially a giant dragon one? Not me, that's for sure. I really like that this article by Leo Haberkamp includes a song.

Energy Death

A condition familiar - to an extent - to people who have overdone it with extreme physical activity, Energy Death will take a person out of commission physically for a while - and magically forever. Shoutout to fellow Tabletaler spleen for making this one.

Eyebright

This plant bestows improved sight in the dark. The entire lifecycle of the plant is presented in great detail. I really enjoyed this article by DrakkenheartPublishing.

Fae

Because Linebound has fae, I needed to check out this one, I always want to see what is the same and what is different. Which elements of chaos, trickery, and magic are used. These fae have a lot more structure than mine but are as wild and occasionally vengeful. Go check out the article by Mark0.

Gravity Plates

This article by skairunner is a very interesting technology and the idea of a gold rush in space was something that made me think what that would look like. Perhaps I have heard one too many Yukon Nuggets on the radio.

Leyline Compass

A compass that can do everything you need it to with only three gems. Theoretically one with seventeen gems could exist and I love that idea because I do love things that are extra. This is a very cool tool by drunkenpanda951.

Pixie Wanderlust

Speaking of leylines this condition is what happens - in one setting - when you spend too much time close to them and just begin wandering in a fugue state. This article is by Absinthe.

The Shifting Sands

An interesting place that has not only a dangerous firestorm but also will just liquify you at random and remake you elsewhere within its borders. Katrina Ewert has created a very cool place - well, a very hot one - which has a lot going on, this amount of ideas for a place is what I should strive for when I make tabletop content.

Trains

Valcin has created not one but three different types of magical engines for the trains of Elema. This made me realize that I have never written about how the skyships of Linebound have changed over time and I probably should.

Goals for 2024

This is a fairly short list but I hope the quality of the results can be high.
Complete one stub each week (except the week following a big writing event).
Participate in Summer Camp.
Participate in WorldEmber.
Read three articles from other authors each week.
Write an interactive adventure for Adventure April.

Goals from 2023

I was able to complete all of my goals for 2023 which I am very happy about.
Redo the meta for Linebound.
Change the appearance of the world using CSS.
Reorganize the world.
Make an adequate timeline. I added quite a few things but realized that I am waiting for some improvements to Chronicles.
Create at least a basic map of Breharan. This may be quite different from all the previous ideas of the size and shape of the continent.
Write a new short story in the setting. Alternatively: Create an interactive story on Linebound.
Write the important articles like nations and cultures and expand from there. I wrote the articles for all of the nations, the regions of the nations anyway. That is a win this year.
Redo the world main page (twice, apparently).
Create an introduction page for new readers. It isn't perfect and I will definitely improve and refine it later but for now it is fine.

Do something towards these goals every day or at least write something.
