The Kholai

The first skyship.

The skies were the clearest they had been in many years and the wind was strong. A large group of people had gathered atop the Great Dam and each was scrambling to get the best view. Some held children on their shoulders, others stood on old boxes, all awaited what came next.
The wooden supports released and instead of falling, the ship stayed aloft and drifted gently away from the dock. The crowd cheered - some still seeking the best view. Some thought it wouldn't be possible and some money begrudgingly exchanged hands. Then the ship unfurled her sails and they were instantly filled with powerful wind. Quickly it left the safety of the bay and into the open blue. But the skies were as clear as could be and some watched until it was only a dot flying in the distance.
The first voyage of the first skyship began.

The First Voyage

When the Kholai set out it was a momentous occasion but no one could have predicted the impact it would have on the zeitgeist.

The Disappearance

In the 22nd year of the Time of Exploration the Kholai and its crew missed their scheduled return date. They were never heard from again but many tales and rumors exist about what could have happened or of sightings of the ship even over four decades later. The crew of the ship became heroes and cultural icons inspiring other people to travel the skies and in the case of Ryza, changing the lives of girls and women everywhere.
