Verdant Archipelago

Distant land overflowing with life.

This cluster of islands - some of them almost rivaling Breharan in size - are full of plants and animals dissimilar from what we see at home. There are trees that seem rooted more deeply than any I have seen and could be used to secure the edges of our island from floods and other erosion. There are unusual animals as well of which I have provided some quick sketches but this is only from our first outing. The diversity of life here in this verdant archipelago is without equal. I must go, it seems Ryza has killed something and insists that everyone tries it.

A Place of Infinite Diversity

As Darosi described in the writings of his travels there is a plethora of life on these islands. Animals of all sizes from colorful frogs that can fit on your fingertip to unknown beasts bigger than most homes. There are creatures more dangerous than those of Breharan and not only because the knowledge of how to handle them is lacking. Here, otherwise innocuous beings may be venomous or even poisonous to a mere touch.

Bathed in Fog and Light

The climate of the skyisland chain is caused by the two main winds that meet there - a wet wind from the Floor and a dry wind from the High. This leads to a wet but warm climate that is often veiled in fog. The bottoms of the skyislands are covered in skyweed which supports a healthy population of unusually colorful skyfish.

The First Voyage

The Verdant Archipelago was discovered by the crew of the Harani during her maiden voyage and knowledge of it was brought to Breharan by the writings of the great explorer Darosi. It was the first major location discovered beyond the Expanse - the empty stretch of sky that separated Breharan and the Colonies from the islands beyond. Mounted fliers simply could not carry enough resources to make it across the expanse but skyships changed that.
