Cultivator

Cultivators are people who are trained in the art of Cultivation, and have the ultimate aim of becoming immortal - but in the meantime, they regularly assist non-cultivators (whom they tend to refer to as "commoners", even the noble ones) in dealing with yao, guai, gui, moguai, and Shenxian (which they term Night-hunting). Most cultivators belong to sects, but there are also those who, while trained, prefer to be unbeholden to any sect, and so wander as they will - these ones are known as "rogue cultivators".

Sect Cultivators

Perceptions

Sect cultivators tend to be seen as the best of the best, depending on the reputation of the sect they are a part of. The more powerful and renowned the sect, the more likely they are to be seen as the best - depending on whether the renown of the sect is good or bad, that is. And some sects do have bad reputations, usually because their cultivators are... not of the best nature.

Ranks

Sect cultivators are divided into ranks based on their experience, knowledge, and power.   Zongzhu: The leader of the sect. The person who has the final say on anything that the sect does.   Head Disciple: Essentially the sect leader's right hand person, the head disciple is chosen from among the inner disciples for their cultivation skills, their administrative skills, and their ability to train others in cultivation.   Inner Disciples: Consisting of both senior and junior disciples, the inner disciples are those that are sworn to the sect from a young age. If the sect is led by a family, inner disciples will usually be members of that family and the branch families.   Outer Disciples: Also consisting of both senior and junior disciples, the outer disciples are those who are not close enough to the power in the sect to be considered inner disciples. Usually they are people who, desiring to become cultivators, have joined the sect as teenagers. Often there is an exam required for outer disciples to join the sect, including a demonstration of skills and knowledge.   Senior Disciples: Senior Disciples are those who have reached the age of 21 years or older, and have been sect disciples for at least 10 years. They are generally given more leeway in both the jobs they do and in their behaviour.   Junior Disciples: Junior Disciples are those who are younger than 21 years of age, and/or have been sect disciples for less than 10 years. Their training is strict and they are generally only allowed to do night-hunts that are approved for them by the Head Disciple.
