Hags
Hags are creatures which prey upon sleepers by sitting on their chests and sending them horrible nightmares. Upon wakening, the sleeper would be unable to move, as per sleep paralysis. They feed on the fear both of the nightmares and of being unable to move. While they cannot be easily killed, they are vulnerable to wrought iron and silver weapons. Additionally, there is a simple spell known to drive them away in which the mage throws a shoe in one direction from their sleeping room door, then its mate in the opposite direction. Various incantations have accompanied this spell, but it’s generally accepted that Throwing Shoes wards against hags.
The offspring of hags are often abandoned near a town well (later at orphanages) or switched with a human baby. As they grow, these children often develop into hag-like creatures rather than the humans who raise them. Around puberty, they usually disappear into the woods, following the call of their blood mothers.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Humanoid, skeletal, usually with skin stretched taut over frame and long, straggling hair. Hair is frequently grey or white, suggesting extreme age.
Genetics and Reproduction
We know they produce children, though no one I know has confirmed the parentage of those children. There are suspicions that involve nocturnal rape but, again, nothing we can confirm. ~Carolyn, 2009
Dietary Needs and Habits
Appear to feed directly on intense emotions and fear, as per Ousiaphages. One major difference between hags and Manananggals.
