You either summon spirits that assume the forms of beasts (Spirit Domain), or call existing beasts to your aid (Animals Domain).   If you are summoning a spirits (Spirit Domain), your offering is consumed in your hand as they appear in a circles of light in unoccupied spaces within range, taking on a form that you choose (see below).   If you are summoning existing beasts (Animals Domain), the GM determines whether suitable creatures are within a 1 mile radius. They appear at the start of the next combat round and consume your offered food before accepting your commands.   Choose one of the following options for what appears:

  • One beast of challenge rating 2 or lower
  • Two beasts of challenge rating 1 or lower
  • Four beasts of challenge rating 1/2 or lower
  • Eight beasts of challenge rating 1/4 or lower
If it is a summoned spirit, each beast is also considered an Outsider, and it disappears when it drops to 0 Hit Points or when the spell ends. If you summon existing beasts, they disperse and resume normal behavior when the spell ends.   When they accept your offering, the summoned creatures are bound by the spell, and must follow your instructions to the best of their ability. You might command a creature to fight by your side in a battle, to guard a location, or to deliver a message. If the creature carries out your instructions completely before the spell ends, it travels to you to report this fact if you are on the same plane of existence. If you are on a different plane of existence, it returns to the place where you bound it and remains there until the spell ends. A bound creature disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends.

At higher ranks: When you cast this spell as spells of higher rank, you choose a new option below, or one of the summoning options above and more creatures appear:
  • Cast as a 5th-rank spell: summon one beast of CR 4 or twice as many appear of above options;
  • Cast as a 7th-rank spell: summon one beast of CR 6, two beasts of CR 4, or three times as many appear of above options;
  • Cast as a 9th-rank spell: summon one beast of CR 8, two beasts of CR 6, three beasts of CR 4, or four times as many appear of above options.
