5th-rank - Necromancy Priest Spell: Death
Choose a creature with Intelligence and Wisdom 4 or greater within 5 feet. The target must have recently died -- within 1 minute of this spell's casting. The creature cannot already be undead.
Hissing purple and black aura gradually gathers in your hand and billows around the target's head as you touch the corpse. The aura binds to the dead creature's spirit, which rises as a wraith or a ghost (your choice) in the space of the corpse or the nearest unoccupied space. It retains dim memories and all the faculties it had in life (Intelligence and Wisdom scores), but cannot use skills or abilities it had in life, and all recollections it has of its former existence are twisted and hazy.
Undead creatures raised with this spell experience a burning rage at being kept in existence past their natural time, which manifests as a desire to destroy all natural life. Any creature created by this spell is hostile to all other creatures unless it comes under magical control.
This spell does not work on outsider spirits, elementals, undead, plants, or constructs.
At higher ranks: If you cast this spell as a spell of 7th rank, you can create a greater wraith, rather than a normal wraith.
