The Order of Kindred
A secret organization out of Vespmar, the Order of Kindred is where all blood hunters originate from.
Born out of the need to fight where others couldn't, the Order of Kindred is extremely selective when choosing its members and not many survive their attempts to join. Those that do are shunned from society forever.
Blood hunters, are in general considered tainted - because they choose to sacrifice a bit of their morality to fight the evil that taints their worlds.
The rituals of the Hunter’s Bane regularly leave one visibly changed and prone to unsettle common folk, and the witnessing of hemocraft can invoke a superstitious fear from even the most learned scholar. While some societies have come to accept the good deeds of the orders, many blood hunters publicly hide their nature unless absolutely necessary, feeling more comfortable in the wilds and wastes of the world where the Orders commonly train. Even so, the best work a blood hunter can do usually involves the poor and defenseless on the outskirts of society, those prone to the corrupting touch of fiends and dark intension.
In choosing this path, a blood hunter has irrevocably given a part of themselves to their cause, physically, emotionally, and sometimes morally. The orders of blood hunters practice their own unique ideals and methods, often employing techniques with dark origins that test the strength and will of these guardians. Many wrestle with the fear of losing this struggle, so a life of discipline and vigilance drives their travels as they wander the countryside in search of like-minded adventurers and whispers of dark deeds afoot.Order of the Moon
The Moonweavers
The werebeasts that stalk Vespmar are more dangerous than most adventurers give them credit for. The danger is not that you will be able to kill the beast (though that is dangerous in and of itself), but that you will be changed into one of them. The Order of the Moon uses the hemocraft rituals to become one of the werebeasts - only they do not lose their minds to the curse. Unfortunately, not many cornered adventurers can tell the difference between a crazed, animalistic werebeast and the blood hunter's sane, controlled form. This makes their bestial form something that the Order of the Moon keeps hidden from those who would not understand.
The undead gather in all places - but all are harmed by the radiance of the divine. The Order of the Sun takes its name from the most brilliant celestial object, the closest that anyone not devoted to the gods will ever get to their divine power. The Order of Sun walks the boundary between life and death, sometimes able to slip through walls or inflict the terrible radiance of the gods to the undead who come back. Of all the orders, the Sunbearers are the ones most likely to cling to faith in the divine.
Some people make pacts with profane creatures to gain power - and the Order of the Stars has seen the power that comes from these deals. Hemocraft alone is not enough to combat their wickedness, so with great caution the Starkeepers make their own pacts with these entities, never giving more than they take. The Order of the Stars is only entrusted to the strongest willed blood hunters, for they can do more damage than any other order should they abandon their vows.
The Order of the Blood does not constrain itself to one transformation like the Moonweavers or the Sunbearers, but instead experiment with hemocraft, perfecting it until they may use it to transform in any way they please. The downside of this is that with each mutation their body is irrevocably changed. Older Bloodcrafters scarcely look human anymore and the Order of the Blood has the highest premature death count of any of the orders.
