Thriyan
House Thriyan is one of the illustrious secondary Houses, and thus one of the most powerful families under the crown. It's prestige does not protect it from suspicion and scrutiny however, as the fact that the family is almost entirely of Tiefling heritage and control perhaps the most infamous city in the kingdom send continual ripples through the rest of the nobility.
Those who hold them in the highest regard respect the way that a Tiefling family has defied the odds and historical unfairness to claim and hold one of the greatest seats of power that there is. Those on the other end of the spectrum whisper doubt and disbelief over how such a lawless and dangerous group is allowed to hold so much sway when there are obviously much more loyal alternatives who could be put in their place instead.
Like the city of Lockhinge itself, no consensus has been reached on the history of the family, (perhaps especially) including the Countess.
There were once a number of Thriyans living within Lockhinge City, but now only the Countess, Count Consort, and their children do.
Known for being: intelligent and charismatic family. Dangerous, especially when underestimated or crossed. Confident, independent, and intense, even casually. Passionate about the ruling ideals and values of Lockhinge and Greymantle. Liberal and progressive. Mysterious and hard to get to know.
Rumors:
They literally bed demons in exchange for wealth and power.
They have been put above the law, because the shady agreements and dealings they have with the king would otherwise be illegal.
There is some sort of blackmail or other dire leverage that they hold over the king, and that is why they have been allowed their power.
If they hadn't been allowed such a comfortable seat of power, the entire southern province would rise up as an independent entity and make war with the kingdom.
The king not only keeps a majority of the kingdom's wealth in Lockhinge's storied vaults, but also grave secrets.
The southern territories are in fact preparing to break away and war for control, and are simply biding their time and using the kingdom's wealth to make ready.
The Countess is either so territorial or so underhanded that the other members of the Thriyan family have been driven out of the city or quietly assassinated.
The Thriyans are not Tieflings at all but are literal demons, and they are intent on corrupting the rest of the kingdom.
The Family
The Countess and Count Consort
The Countess is famously known to be a mysterious and intimidating figure, and has become more content to remain in her city as her children have reached adulthood. While initially it had seemed her and the Count Consort had been steering toward retirement once their heir became of age to take over the title (especially as Aiza Thriyan was granted the title of baroness), no further signs of this move have been seen.
When seen in public, the Countess is gracious, charismatic, and holds herself with great confidence and poise.
Rumors:
Sordid history and gained her title through underhanded means.
Is much older than she seems.
Reportedly burned someone to death in the middle of court.
Is at the center (perhaps along with the Twicefells) of an Infernal plot within the city.
Where the Countess' mystery and intensity is tempered with a smile and boundless charisma, the Count Consort seems to hold very little care over whether or not others find their presence intimidating. While perfectly polite and gracious when in conversation, it is known to not be an easy task by any means to drag them into conversation in the first place.
While the Countess focuses on matters within the city and the political connections between Lockhinge and the rest of the kingdom, the Count Consort's realm is upholding the peace and political connections within Greymantle. Being the Master of Greymantle, they oversee the
Rangers Aeskethi, and serve as one of the twelve
Sentinels within it.
Before marrying the Countess, the Count Constort was from
House Ixeni, who are known for their reclusive tendencies and dedication to the wilds of Greymantle Marsh.
