Frent Castle

Typical of the fortifications near the border with Old Hoabb, Frent Castle began as a motte and bailey. Developed by the barons of Frent over several generations, the once wooden motte has become a small square tower castle, and the bailey palisade has grown to become a stone curtain wall surrounding much of the vibrant village it fosters. The commoners and peasants of Frent know they can rely on their lord to take in his charges and protect them in times of trouble.   Since its earliest days Frent Castle has served as refuge from bands of goblins roaming the Tagge Hills. Not as grandly decorated as some of the halls of its neighbors such as the brightly adorned Pavehrest or imposingly fortified Jarnhamor, but always great enough in size to take in every refugee seeking its protection, even on occasion those cast adrift by neighbors. This generosity of spirit has occasionally resulted in conflict between these small fiefs, as valued serfs or commoners have occasionally been taken in by the Baron of Frent during danger and found to be reluctant to return to their callous lords after.   Not just a military fortification, Frent Castle also boasts further investments in the security of its charges, including a small temple to the Sovereign Host and in its main hall a mosaic of tiles outlining a Theater of Mercy. In the chambers below, vaults hold a treasure not of gold or jewels, but a great granary to ensure the masses will not be sacrifice to famine or siege.   Many smallholdings lie outside the castle fortification, and the village has begun to spill outward as well. Nearby several franklins and yeomen have developed longhouses and small ventures and communities in support of Frent.     - -   Originally written for 2024 Summer Camp challenge answering Building A BUILDING CONSIDERED A REFUGE AGAINST THE WORLD
