Dione

Dione, an icy moon of Saturn that is slightly smaller than Rhea, has been the site of extensive Lumen terraforming and settlement efforts due to its unique geological features and the presence of a thin, tenuous atmosphere. The moon's surface is characterized by a mix of heavily cratered terrain, tectonic features, and smooth, icy plains that are thought to have formed as a result of cryovolcanic activity.

Geography

Carthage Linea

The most heavily developed region of Dione is the Carthage Linea, a series of long, linear depressions that extend across much of the moon's surface. This region, which is thought to have formed as a result of tectonic stresses and cryovolcanic activity, has been the focus of extensive Lumen terraforming efforts, which have sought to transform it into a more habitable environment for human settlement.   The centerpiece of these terraforming efforts is the Carthage Colony, a large, domed settlement that is home to a permanent population of several thousand Lumen scientists, engineers, and support staff. The colony, which is equipped with advanced life support systems and terraforming technologies, has been designed to serve as a testbed for new methods of creating habitable environments on icy, geologically active moons like Dione.

Palatine Chasma

Another notable feature of Dione's geography is the Palatine Chasma, a large, deep canyon system that extends for hundreds of kilometers across the moon's surface. The chasma, which is thought to have formed as a result of tectonic stresses and erosion by flowing liquid water, has been the site of extensive Lumen exploration and research efforts.   The most significant Lumen facility in the Palatine Chasma is the Palatine Research Station, a small but highly advanced scientific outpost that is responsible for studying the moon's unique geological and hydrological features. The station, which is staffed by a team of several dozen Lumen scientists and engineers, is equipped with advanced sensor arrays, drilling rigs, and submersible exploration vehicles that allow it to study the chasma's deep, subterranean environments.
